This is a pretty useful mod. I enjoy my wireless charging in my truck. Sucks I have to still have power chords all over the place for the other devices. Lol

I had to redo and take out and replace the 26 screws to do that. I had asked the guy at the auto parts store about JB plastic weld. He gave me permatex plastic welder. Bought it and went home. When I was reading the directions I noticed it said will not bond to polyethylene or polypropylene. Not knowing what the plastic was I used it. It worked great for a week and the quit. So this weekend I took the 20 screws out and yeah the board wasn’t attached. I was going to try JB weld this time but my friend suggested silicon caulk. So I did both. First the JB weld then after that cured silicon caulk. Hopefully that will hold it. It works for now.

I see a lot of people trying to add the wireless charger underneath but has anyone looked into anything like this? Slip resistant and only maybe a small hole required to run wire into the console. Was wondering if it will even fit in the top of the console.

Dimensions of charger from product question section on Amazon:
    "length : 7.2inch , width : 4.0inch ,tickness: 0.59inch"

Who ever answers the questions, also recommends trimming the charger pad to make it fit a Silverado console cut out.

    Love this forum...

Just did this mod and love it. This is in preparation for my new audio system I'm putting in. I have the Pioneer AVIC-W8400NEX (still in the box as are the speakers/amp/woofer....) that has wireless apple carplay. Only makes sense to get a charging pad to complete the system.

I used the USB adapter in the first post and hard wired it to the lighter in the rear console. Very easy to take off and tap into the power/gnd. I chose to use the silicone charging pad:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078JLXY8C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and drop it right into the console tray.

I trimmed about half inch off and it fits nice and snug. If I had to do it again, I would have angled my cut and have a nicer fitment...but this will do and it's totally functional.

I have an otter-box case on my iPhone X which puts even more "stuff" between the phone and the charger, thus I went this route instead of the hidden charger route.

Very happy :) with the results.

You can see the top (towards the front) I could have cut a little better and on an angle instead of straight down. Take that into consideration if you want to use this charging pad. I also put a double sided 3M piece of tape between top of pad and tray just to ensure it doesn't fall backward when tray is fully opened.

    IMG_6967.jpg

Wires are all hidden, tie wrapped, USB male to female tie wrapped, and foam around connection to eliminate noise.

    IMG_6968.jpg

And to give you some idea of the charging and placement of phone I took some action photos...

Remember I have the otter-box case which is quite a bit thicker than a leather or rubber case.

    IMG_6969.jpg

    now for some adjustments

    IMG_6970.jpg

    IMG_6971.jpg

    IMG_6972.jpg

    And last action shot:

    IMG_6973.jpg

    Never lost charge connectivity.

Thank you @trdlife for your time and excellent tutorial. Made this easy to do (albeit the tiny screws were a PITA...but you knew that).

Without a case on it might. I have tufskins inserts and what I did was trace out my phone and cut out the center on the insert. May not be as pretty but it holds the phone perfectly

Thank you for the response. Stinks one will have to be compromised to make the mod work. Thank you for the write up and I look forward to doing this in the near future!

Yea I hear ya, maybe with a thinner case it would work, but I run otterbox so i need it close to the charger. And my iphone x is smaller so i was looking mostly for something that would help it from sliding around, and this worked perfect for my needs.

Has anyone tried mounting the charger here yet? Its flat on the bottom, no fins to remove and the plastic is fairly thin.

Just doing some testing on my workbench and it works great. Even through my case. Correct me if I'm wrong but this is where they put it on the Tacoma. IMG_0965.jpg

using some duct tape for a temporary test. Ultimately I'd epoxy it to the bottom.

I thought about it. Your correct that where it is on the Tacoma. It can’t easily be mounted there. I choose the console lid for convenience to myself

My wife is always in and out of the center console. So my thought was stick it down on the front console out of the way. Maybe I'll text a little less while I'm driving AND it won't be in the way every time we open the console lid. Real stealth like. :D

Please don't text and drive at all. Have seen way too many crashes with that being the sole cause. It's more common than drunk driving crashes now. Lost my best friend to a girl texting, left his 2 year old daughter without a father. Do us all a favor and keep your phone in your pocket. The purpose of wireless charging isn't easy access to text while driving
