I am pretty confident working with metal and currently own my own business, so all tools, parts, and so much more can be write offs. However I am really picky with the parts I want to put on my truck and really am not super impressed with the looks, cost, and or time frame of what is currently out there. I am going to purchase a Miller Multimatic 215 and a Tube bender that is good enough to start really being able to fab some good quality stuff on my own.

    https://www.millerwelds.com/equipme...KgY3LokiWWrdf3dAAYX6UfG_bz4GZdMRoCS-MQAvD_BwE

    https://www.jd2.com/model-3-bender

    http://www.swagoffroad.com/SWAG-Machined-Tubing-Bender-AirHydraulic-Ram-Mount-_p_117.html

I am wondering how many others have fabbed up their own bumpers or any other parts. I have seen a few builds like this... @papasmurf (Supremely capable and Rad Rig) has some pretty sweet bumpers he made himself, and they turned out well. I grew up doing this sort of stuff with friends and almost feel obligated to build rather than buy on certain things. I'm not exactly trying to build a truck quite as big and gnarly as @Spvrtan (Supremely capable and Rad Rig) however I most definitely plan to wheel my truck. I'm not too concerned about cutting up fenders boxing up the bed frame and getting some trail scars. I understand also that Tundras are huge however still pretty capable. I drive over 200 miles daily usually and put 45k miles on last truck in 6 months. So I am only planning on doing MCM Mid travel kit, pretty rad kit IMO. Sorry for the novel, trying to better know the community. Just about every Rig in the SGU @osidepunker and a few other builds have inspired me to build what I want and how I want it, so I can get out and have a great time. This whole process begins with a baby boy due in 3 months it'll be a few year ride.

Hats off to ya, it would be a time consuming adventure. One thing you should have for sure is a good plasma cutter. Something like this⬇️

    Screenshot_20180609-193009.jpg

I would would do one too but it probably won't happen till the boys are a little older.

Hell yes dude. Good for you for building. That’s whats up. I haven’t started fabbing anything for my dc yet. Plan to build my own sliders, rear bumper and skid plates. I just finished building a bagged c10 in my garage. It was real fun, and I learned a lot!
Looking forward to seeing what you build.

I most definitely need a plasma cutter and more than a few other tools. I didn’t realize how good I had it when I was growing up in CA. One of my brothers had just about any tool you could need for general Fab then we had buddies with shops if it were behyound those. Thanks

Good on you, I’m. A fan of bagged C-10’s you do an LS swap into it? I feel like DIY fab and restoration is most definitely my therapy, along with too many other expensive hobbies.

To OP, if you want some advice, look into the bendtech pro software. You can design assemblies in 3D space, but it’s catered to tube and plate fabrication specifically. It’s also very affordable. It’s a tough learning curve, but they have a ton of write ups and demos on how to do things. This way you can make everything prior to cutting expensive steel and get an idea of how you want it to look. You can make all the mistakes you want, until your'e happy with how the bumper looks.

Additionally, you can even do print outs of the notches that you wrap around tube and if you do your part, it gives you a perfect notch to the other tube. If you end up going with a bender, you can also tune your die into the software and it will give you locations and the start of a bend for perfect fitment. They also have a sheet metal module that can also do assemblies.

Take it from someone that has bent/cut multiple 20ft sticks of DOM, only to realize I didn’t measure correctly or bent them the wrong way... that alone paid for this software.

I will most definitely be checking out Bendtech software. I’m definitely aware of the fact that it’s overall not easy however to me worth it. Your Cherokee build is rad! Plus you have a nice Tundra.

$260 onsale currently however another $160 or so for the armor add on, I’m sure it’ll be worth it.

I know it seems like a lot, but the alternative is a program like Solidworks or AutoCAD. I have been considering getting a Solidworks license and for a single use computer its $2k+ a year. A freaking year...!!! Bendtech took everything you would use from a CAD standpoint and effectively "dumbed" it down for that price and its a 1 time price with continuous updates. I think it's well worth it. Your other option is to download Fusion 360, which is free for independent folks to use, but the learning curve on that one is even higher, since its more of a full fledged CAD system.

This is an idea I've been toying with even before I bought my truck!

I'm a welder / fabricator, so I'd have many tools at my disposal. no concern there. my main concern was insurance/ liability. If I accidentally hit another car... ect. ect.

please keep us posted! I'm just trying to add food for thought.

I just had a baby and have been working too much lately to even begin the process. I’m hoping to soon though. Hard up in ND once the cold comes. I’m more than likely thinking however that I’ll run the ARB front and make my own rear. The ARB front has just really grown on me. Overall my priorities have shifted a bit as well. Really wanting to get my suspension completely dialed before I do any metal fab. I have front mid travel from MCM Fab, saving for the rear.
