New Tundra owner here. Wanted to upgrade to a more capable truck pulling our TT for long Summer trips. I think I've accomplished that.

Found this at my local used dealer. I don't know much about it. I've been reading through the user manual, and starting to roam the forums, but have a lot to learn. Especially since we're taking the TT and family out for 3 weeks starting in 10 days. Carfax showed it was taken care of with oil changes and 30k mile service by a local dealer (it's just under 33k).

It's a 2015 Platinum. Obviously larger tires and custom wheels - no idea if this contains a lift kit to fit the tires (they rub a tad on sharp turns).

We pull a 2017 Micro Minnie 1700BH. I suspect I will hardly notice it back there with this truck!

Would love to know your favorite things about the truck and specifically Platinum features, tips you'd share with new owners, etc. I haven't even filled her up yet, but one thing I can't get a straight answer on is the gas tank size - did they make different size tanks for this model?

Coming from a midsize pickup, this is the largest vehicle I've driven. Love how the V8 roars.

I do love that rear roll down! One of the first things that drew me to the Tundra.
Thanks on the tank size info.. we'll see what happens when I fill up!

Welcome from Denver! You'll love you truck. Also, the manual is clear that a weight distribution hitch is needed if towing 5k or more.

Congrats and welcome. The 2015 model year has a 26.4-gallon tank, it was on the 2016 model year was when the 38 Gallon tank was introduced.
You do have the option to upgrade the tank. Get in touch with @trdlife here as he has done it. As times goes by you're going want to upgrade the headlight to the 2018 model year led lights. There are quite a few who have done it. That V8 roars might be from an aftermarket exhaust as I don't see the standard exhaust outlet from the picture.
Come back after your trip and let us know your experience of your new ownership.

Great thanks! I certainly will have in interest in upgrading it later.
Regarding the V8/exhaust, I also hear a high-pitched (though faint) whistle when accelerating. Is that normal on these? Or could it be due to aftermarket work?

It could be an aftermarket intake.
Standard single outlet exhaust comes out the passenger side. So unless you saw different picture than I did we wouldn’t be able to tell from the driver side.

    OP
Let’s get a shot from under the hood. Also check to see if you see an aftermarket air filter inside the stock box. Let’s get a picture of the front springs from inside the wheel well. We could tell you if you have a lift or not. From your photo it looks like it’s been leveled. Maybe take a picture from under the truck so we can see your exhaust/muffler to tell you if it’s after market as well.

Yea you can upgrade to the oem 38 gallon fuel tank and its well worth it in my opinion. And a pretty straight forward swap, i just installed mine and choose not to add the 3rd crossmember and its doing just fine I don't think ill worry about it. If you go factory, if you can get parts at cost, you looking about $800 ish, give of take. Or there is the 46 gallon transflow option it runs about $1300.

And your whistle noise, does it kinda sound like a small turbo? you could be hearing the air pumps for the secondary air injection turning on.

Sounds like somebody added a drop in lifetime filter like a K&N or possibly a cold air intake. Take a pic of the air box and filter. Also cut one wheel to full outer lock and take a pic of one of the front coilovers (shock/spring) and we can see if there is a lift.

    I
have the 38 gal. Don't be surprised if you feel like more should have gone in. Seems like I can't use the full tank. Most I have been able to get in is around 31-32 gallons.

Welcome from CO. The rubbing may have to do with the wheel offset. We can tell you if its lifted if you post a photo of the suspension.
