So after deleting the chrome on the cup holder, the chrome around on the shifter surround had to go. First attempt I learned that I taped to closely (first venture into plasti-dipping). That resulted in some pealing off the chrome, so then I watched a video and learned it was too close my second time came out a bit better, but still think it can be better. The underside has 4-6 plastic welds on it. Thinking I may remove those and drop the chrome price out completely, dip it and then get some plastic weld to reinstall. Anyone attempt this? And if so is it as simple as it seems in my head?

A little of this and a little of that.
I don't think taking off the plastic welds will be as easy as it seems, if something didn't go right then, you're screwed. I would def not take it out just to plastiDip...

I did the same way with the same results. As long as the chrome is gone, I'm happy.

Yeah I have a feeling it’s not as easy, but I somehow scratched the cover when I had it off and was dipping it. So I may look to order a replacement, and then experiment on the scratched one.

So those little plastic welds I was referring to, you got them off obviously. How did you go about doing it. Then you just super glued it back on?

    Flux capacitor!
I’ve also done the plasti dip on this part before. For me it didn’t hold up as well as I would have liked. This time I’m going to spray it with permanent paint. That chrome is so bad when the sun hits it.

Used a sharp chisel to take plastic welds off and push out and it kinda snaps back but I will use either super glue or epoxy

Sounds good! I would avoid the super glue since it leaves a white residue.

I think I’m going to go ahead and go this route. The plasti looks pretty good, but I think popping it out and painting it will look a lot better. Probably gunna do that this weekend when I can dedicate some time to it.

I read somewhere a guy used a soldering iron to melt the plastic rivets out.

I just used a small flat head screwdriver and carefully lifted around it. The clips popped out pretty easily

I first did Autodip, my wife took the truck out and somehow chipped it, the cup holders really bad lol. So I peeled it off the holders and leaving it off for now, redid the surround in Plastidip.
