4.6 V8, 4wd, 14mpg

Really was hoping I'd average 15-17mpg in mixed driving that I do. So far for the 3 tanks I've been through, its been 14.0 mpg, 14.0 mpg, then 13.6 mpg, but then again on that last one I did drive it a bit harder, tried to see if it would do a burnout or a brake stand.

Anyways, is 14mpg the norm with city driving???? I do about 60% of mile miles on the interstate doing 50 to 75mph.

Honestly I thought I'd be doing a little bit better than 14 miles per gallon, I was kind of expecting 15 to 17 in this truck with the smaller V8.

Still though, the fuel bill is about the same as my old 1992 Lexus SC300, 5 speed manual. That thing did about 17-18mpg in my normal "city" driving, maybe 22-23mpg on a road trip. That car ran on premium, which is now 50 to 80 cents more a gallon.

Do the math, that 2 door car costs just as much as my huge ass pickup truck in gas due to the premium fuel surcharge.

 

Hmm I’m on my 3rd tank now and I’ve been getting 14.9 and 15.2 (self calculated, truck was only .2 higher so close) and I have the 5.7. I do back co try road driving and work midnights I get to cruise on into work at 55-60mph with little to no traffic, very little city driving. On the way home it’s more stop and go for the first 2 miles then back country roads 50-55mph.

I know awhile back before I got my taco I was considering a tundra and specifically the 4.6 and everyone I talked to said it wasn’t worth it, the mpg would only be 1-2/3 more.

 

Mine weighs in around 8500lbs with all my mods. Hehe i'm around a cool 9-12mpg lol

 

I have a 07 crewmax I get 12mpg usually with the 4.7 with 33s. I got 10.8mpg when I went 4wheeling and left the truck running the whole time with AC for the baby. Then went on the freeway for about 120 mile round trip to for work the other day and I was going 65-75mph I averaged roughly 16mpg! Huge difference!

 

I drive a 2014 5.7 CM....before the leveling lift and heavy ass tires i averaged 13-15mpg city driving and 15-17mpg hwy. Now i get around 12-13mpg city..... not really sure on hwy but ill find out this weekend driving to Colorado. I don't expect to get higher than 16mpg but we will see

8500??? Find that hard to believe... My buddy Osidepunker’s truck is 8100lbs with a constant load of extra 10gal fuel, 10gal water, recovery gear, heavy tent rack/long travel rack welded to the frame, etc etc etc. Unless you have something crazy going on under that camper you’re nowhere near 8500

 

My double cab stock weighs 5500 I believe not sure if that’s all fluids

 

I have an 18 CM with the 4.6 and I’m averaging 17 (per the truck) depending on how aggressive I drive. I spend 30% of my time in the city and the rest In somewhat rural areas.

 

My 4.6 4wd gets good 15.5 average stop and go around town and a solid 20+ on highway. I have a 2” front lift and 7/8” back lift with lt275/70r18’s. No complaints here!

2015 4.6L here I average 16 mpg in city driving , 17/18 hwy (75/80 mph). Toyota cruse control is the worst for mpg , it hammers the throttle to bring it back to the set speed . I can get 19/20 mpg on hwy driving (no cruse on country roads 55/65 mph) .

 

My 2012 w/ 54,800 miles, 4.6L completely stock (aside from factory tonneau cover) 50city/50 hwy miles is averaging 15.6mpg. My last fill up was 16.3 mpg with the A/C on most of the time and my best was 17.5 mpg cruising on the highway 55-65mph. I try to conserve the fuel but unfortunately, on the days I take the Harley my wife takes the truck to do her running around instead of the Subaru.
