Did you use a 2 way breather? Need to make sure it’s a 2 way up there.

I took the stock one that was used on the rear diff and put it on the other end. No clue if it's 2 way, but thought it would fine since it's what was used before.

I've heard people suggest that. I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Those dumps are nice, I'm going to have to do that.
Are you sure you have enough slack on the hose? It could just be the picture, but it looks like it might be tight if you flex.

Make sure you've got plenty of slack in that hose to allow for full droop+.

The stock one is a one way. You want a two way don’t doesnt create negative pressure when your axles are submerged. The ARB is a two way. @dcsleeper408 ’s diy has the part # for the two way valve that he used on his relocation.

If you have any foam filter material you can wrap it around the tube and tie wrap it. Want to make sure no contaminate makes it down the tube.

Didn't think this was going to happen after removing the TRD tail pipes. After making a few trips today, the exhaust sound isn't as loud in the cab. You can hear the engine revs move and it has a deeper tone in the cab when you romp on it.

I stay away from the turn down right at the muffler.. or any exhaust for that matter especially for the Tundra because there aren't really any programmers on the market that work and can crack theToyota computer. It decreases back pressure which puts unknown stresses on the engine and therefore every other component of the vehicle reducing gas mileage and performance. The vehicle starts running differently and shifting differently. I understand the purpose so the tail pipe doesnt get crushed.

Anyway I used this on the end of my diff breather extension when I had my rock crawler. 10 bucks. Don't think it will fit inside the rear rail light mount though..

Hmm. Dirty deeds / BAMufflers make systems like this and has proven dyno videos on youtube with increased hp/tq. This is with and without a tuner and also with trucks being super charged. They even make a race system without mufflers that dumps before a muffler would be. That would cause even less back pressure.

I was thinking about this a bit more. If the stock breather isn't 2 way wouldn't that defeat the purpose of having to do the rear diff breather mod? Wouldn't it try to suck the water in and wouldn't it close if it wasn't 2 way? I did notice how the stock breather top moves up and down to open, but it does have gaps on the side so it looks like it can suck air in when the cap is in a closed position.

edit: in essence it is a two way breather because of the gaps on the sides of the top cap

What's time point of doing the rear diff breather again? Did you do the front? I've heard after water gets into diff fluid it should be changed. Can water find it's way in even with diff breather extension?

The front diffs already have the breather mounted high in the engine bay. The rear diff mod is not 100% necessary, it's more of an insurance policy to be sure cold water doesn't cause the OEM breather to inhale by having it mounted high up behind the tail light. Basically, the breather allows pressure to escape from the diff. A cold water crossing can cause temp, thereby pressure, to drop inside the diff which then tries to equalize the pressure by sucking on the breather.

That's crazy I would think that the outside air was to vent out excess pressure.. but it takes in air to keep pressure! That's really cool. Seems like it probably would do both then.. is there an actual temp sensor in the diff?

I don't think so. It's just physics. I've never heard of water actually getting into a Tundra diff. I think we may be out smarting ourselves with the diff breather mod but it's cheap insurance.

I repositioned the stock breather just like you did, behind the tail light. Hadn’t heard of a need to have a different type (two way) if locating it up there. Not sure exactly why you’d need a different piece just due to new location.

I remember when I did my diff mod. I was checking the stock breather by blowing through it. If I remember correctly you could only blow out of it but not in reverse (Suck).
When fluid is hot and you cool it by driving through the water, the differential should try to inhale. But our breather only allows for expansion not contraction. So the only real way water is going to get in is through the axle seals. I could see where a two-way breather would be a better idea now that it’s relocated higher. When it’s located down low on the differential it’s a good thing that that breather is a one-way valve.

I think I’m going to look into that ARB breather.
