TRD dual exhaust - detailed installation

Butt dyno says less low end torque. Possibly increased mid range power.

 

Anyone have the part number for the heatshield or does it come with the mufflers?

 

It comes with it. There's actually 2 part numbers you have to order. One for the mufflers and one for the tailpipes. Not sure which one the heat shield comes with, but it's one of them.

 

Has anyone else spent all the money on this catback and have it fit like garbage. I have OCD so every time I look at the back of my truck I get angry. I mean sounds great but the fitment is trash. i tried hangers and all do I just have to live with it?

 

My passenger side was a little lower as well, but I was able to mess with it and get it fairly close. Also, you may try what was suggested in post #41 by Putting a hose clamp around the rubber hanger and tighten it up. This will compress the hanger and raise the tail pipe. Just an idea.

 

you adjust the 'hang' at the outlet by loosening the pipe where it connects to the muffler section and rotating a bit. is a two person job but otherwise very simple. I had my son stand at the rear of the truck and hold it just right while I tightened the bolts.

 

I believe the heat shield actually comes with the tail pipes.

 

I will try the hose clamp trick when I get home, and to loosening it up I tried that. After I bought the truck and saw the exhaust they just installed wasn't even I crawled under the truck in 15 degree weather is sockets and a wrench and tried that. Wasn't enough play. If not I'll Dremel the hole and slot it a little for play. Lotta work for a 1300$ exhaust!!

EDIT: oh, I see. you had the dealer install it. $215 seems like a lot for the install, however.

 

Oh I know it's alot and I know how to work on cars as well that's the kicker! but I got the truck during a cold snap and didn't feel like installing it in the cold. But if I had known I would be under the truck trying to straighten it out anyway I would have done it myself!!!!

 

I hear ya. I used to live in MA and there is no way I would be under the truck in below freezing weather

 

I replaced the passenger side hanger with a new hanger when I installed mine. The passenger side was hanging about a inch lower than the drivers side before I did that. Now they are perfectly even.

 

My local dealer quoted me just over $1200 for the TRD duals. Does this seem on par to what everyone else is paying?

 

that sounds ok. the parts are $1085 with tax so that's $115 for the install. but do it yourself and save the $115. its so easy.

 

That price was just the parts.....no install.

True that! A fresh hanger will not have any stretch in it.

 

Great write up, just remember its easy to do living in a salt free state and if your rig is only a few years old.

From the dealer. However, you won't get any price breaks from them. If you are looking for less expensive options, there are other exhaust vendors on this site. @dirtydeeds

How much did the TRD exhaust kit cost total?

 

$1080 with tax.

 

I ordered my exhaust kit last Saturday from the dealer for $1086. No tax in Oregon! It came in yesterday and they are telling my that the price installed is $1540! I'm going to pick it up and do it at home with friend..

Ok well the accessories guy at the toyota dealer and I were not on the same page with my order....

Long story short, he ordered me the muffler kit without the tail pipe kit.

The problem was that for '18 toyota changed the model numbers and with that came a price change also.

I went into the dealer this morning and picked up the new part numbers for both the muffler kit and tail pipe kit. New part numbers pictured, basically went from 34101/34106 to 34160/34161. Hopefully he was correct...

The price on the new kits combined is now $1347 (no tax oregon)

I will be installing them myself sometime next week!

 

oh man, that sucks about the price increase. at least you got them. have fun with the install (knowing that you are still saving hundreds of dollars by doing it yourself)
