So in February 22, 2018 I was in a horrible accident that should have been fatal, but luckily I am still breathing. Now almost three months to the day, on 05/23/18, I was minding my own business in my truck (which only has 2,000 miles on it) and BAM, rear ended! The damage is not bad, but I did take three steps back in my recovery from the previous accident. :(

That sucks man. I swear everytime I pull up to a light I watch my rearview. I even leave space in front of me so I can dart out of the way if need be. Some people just do not pay attn at all

Dang, sorry to hear. Glad you are "ok". Sucks about the truck. Make sure you have the frame checked out.

Had the same thing happen to me a few months ago. Not as much damage, but I was pissed. My truck was less than six months old.
On the bright side, the money he gave me covered me color matching all of my bumpers.

Thanks everyone, and @Atomic City Tundra I made a big point with the insurance company about getting the frame checked. The tow hitch took most of the force, it even went through the other car's radiator, so I am nervous about frame damage

Dang sorry to hear but good thing is everybody is okay and it’s all material things which can be fixed or covered. Try to get a depreciation estimate I heard people go through a 3rd party for this because normally insurance just give you like 50 bucks for depreciation value

Dang dude that sucks. Hope you're ok. Get yourself checked too, especially with the last bad accident. Hope the set back in recovery isn't severe.

Ironically enough, the accident happened while I was on my way to my 3 times weekly physical therapy appointment. So yes, I am getting checked out.

I had read about it on here, couldn’t find the original post but it was like the insurance only paid them like 200 for depreciation value because now that it’s been in an accident it won’t be valued as high. But instead this person went through another company and they paid like 200-400 dollars and ended up getting like 4K back because the accident brought down the truck value. I know there’s a thread somewhere on here about it.

So I have the truck at the shop now and I told the insurance company I am a big guy and drive a big truck for a reason. They said got it, we have a truck for you. I get to the rental place and you know what they gave me? A Taco! seriously, I bought a TUndra over the Taco because the Taco is so Bleeping small. My hips hurt from sitting in it. Also, the 2018 Taco barely gets better MPG than the Tundra, and it is a total dog. I feel like I'm going to get hit again because people are expecting it to actually move when you press the gas, but it doesn't. So frustrating.

Its called DV, as in diminished value. Most insurance companies will balk at paying any of this out but I would push it, very aggressively.

Be aggressive with the diminished value, as mentined above the insurance companies will give a lot of push back. I had filed for it on a previous truck and was able to get $2500, took about a month of going back and forth.

If you are healthwise feeling you took 3 steps back, I hope you don't settle for just bumper repair. I'd recommend getting medical checkout for that and get it recorded.

In the last couple of years, I have been rear ended in my old VW jetta, pre Tundra, by texting 21 year old gal. No insurance but paid back my insurance. That was $5500.

My son got hit in a cross walk and almost killed by a woman, 47, on her phone....Killed his best friend, his dog in the process. She had no insurance and driving someone else's car.... Had to get a lawyer involved in that one. GRRR.

Dude my heart sank reading that. I’m sorry about your son’s friend and his dog. Maybe I’m on my period, but it almost brought tears to my eyes. Losing friends hits a soft spot with me. My friend flew out of my car in a head on when we were kids, I held his skin on his forehead together until the ambulance arrived. He made a full recovery but I’ll never forget it. I thought his brains were coming out of his head. I’m hugging my daughter as soon as she comes home today.

Man, this was a bad day! I'm glad you weren't hurt critically but know a set back with a healing neck, back, or head injury is seriously no bueno. And... that beautiful Inferno Tundra.
