So I noticed that Tundra windshields are target for rocks. Since I have owned the truck I have had three direct hits which all have caused rock chips. Two of which have destroyed my windshield two days after I got the truck. Seems the me the truck is at the perfect height for windshield madness. Any of you guys experiencing the same thing?

Since I will be replacing the windshield soon what kind of glass do I want to replace it with? Don't what that cheap foreign shit.

Negative. I've been lucky and have never had to replace a glass due to rocks on the Tundra . . . and hope to never have too.

Out here in WY, seems to be a way of life. You should see this thing. Ridden with fractures.

Nothing yet. My wife's SUV had to be replaced last month. Took a road trip to South Texas and came back with a windshield which looked like a map of Texas' interstate system. I noticed most of the vehicles in that area have chips and cracks in their windshields.

I've had my truck for a little over a year and have had a hit or two but none have split or cracked. I do have a dent in my A-pillar that chipped the paint and it is SO CLOSE to the windshield but didn't get it.

not sure where you are located but here in CO, i've got an extra rider on my state farm insurance that covers windshields. no budgeting needed. as long as the crack is large enough (2" or so), the safelite guys come to the house and it just gets replaced.

Replaced my windshield this year through insurance after chunks of snow and roof debris fell on it and put chips everywhere. I now alway back into my driveway.

    Clay and wax it!
    - beads better than RainX
    - bird poop & bugs don't stick
    - ice in the winter comes off easy
    - lasts 4-6 months

I think it's all trucks in general; more glass surface area than most cars and at less of an angle or slope that does not deflect (as well) rocks or flying object away. Just a recipe for more damage. Of coarse driving around road work and big truck traffic will not help.
Oddly to me, two of the hardest rocks to ever hit my windshield were from opposite travelling traffic. Both times startled the hell out of me as vehicles passed in opposite direction. Windshield damage not just from vehicles in front of you.

Just cracked another one. Second one in 7000 miles. Crack is about 10” long and growing everyday. I’m just going to leave it this time and wait for another hit since it’s on the passenger side.

I’ve got a major rock impact on mine that insurance repaired. It looks like crap even after the repair! The glass company told me most customers will “give a little persuasion to spread the chip” for a full windshield replacement. Like other members posted FJ cruiser, Jeeps and Hummers are the most susceptible to damage because their windshield are more vertical. They tend to take a more direct impact. On my next Tundra I’m doing the clear paint protection for the hood, bumper and grille on day one. To answer your question about the glass. You can request OEM glass but it varies on your insurance if they will cover it. Like another member stated you can request a separate windshield replacement policy onto your existing insurance. I have this and it cost me nothing to repair or replace my windshield from damage. Plus my wife drives a Jeep. So I’ve replaced the windshield once already. I did request OEM glass and had to get approval from insurance since OEM glass was twice the price as aftermarket.

By the way my insurance Farmers said the crack has to be larger than a dollar bill to replace the windshield. The rule of thumb used to be larger than a quarter.

You guys know what aftermarket glass I should get? I know some glass is better then others. Not paying for OEM since this is out of pocket.

I am not aware of any better than OEM aftermarket windshield glass. Maybe contact the replacement folks and ask for recommendations; Safelite, Binswanger....

Maybe we need lobby our Congress for "safer-softer" rocks. :playball: Thinking of a few Politicians who want safer bullets (Not trying to get Political!)

Not the rocks fault. It's ours for encroaching on their natural habitat.

I had mine replaced about 8 months ago. Took a nasty rock and a direct hit but cracked it good. Had a friend do it who owns a glass shop.

I don't think it was OEM. And unfortunately I don't know the manufacturer. I was so happy with the price and service I didn't care. Sorry not much help

so here's what i know based on some experiences with my day job. i've spent some time in automotive plants. i work with a handful of people that specialize only in automation systems for automotive plants. there are only so many tier 1 suppliers to the automakers. whether the glass is stamped 'Toyota' or not, there is a 95% chance that came from the same supplier. just throwing that out there.

To continue an old post, I purchased a 2021 Tundra, i have 3000 km and have 4 chips on my windshield so far. i know its all gravel roads but never had this issue with my other véhicules, crazy!

Seems just knocking on the windshield, it seems very tin.

OP, it might be your tires throwing pebbles over your truck when you get to highway speeds. I experienced this much more with the KO2's on my 2014 than I have with my Toyo ATIII's on my 2020.

Yes its definitely pebbles hitting it , but usually they hit and deflects, maybe a chip sometimes but not that bad, my 2021 seems every hit is a chip.
