I have a question concerning getting a 3/1 lift for my 2012 Tundy TRD. I don't off road enough to call myself an off-roader but through the year I will need to venture off the asphalt. I don't want to spend the $1300 for the Toytech system but I also don't like the idea of a spacer lift.

    Here's what I'm looking at....
Buying a 3/1 Rough Country Spacer lift for $170 but using Bilstien 5100 in place of the strut spacer, and adding one or two of the shims that comes with the kit to achieve the 3" in front. So I would get 2.25" with the strut upgrade and finish it off with about 3/4" of strut spacer.

I know I seam like a cheap skate but I can't spend the big bucks on a truck, but I also don't want to set myself up for damaging said truck. I have had spacer lifts on other trucks and the ride did suffer but had no other problems, I'm just trying to get a good compromise and value. And help/opinions are welcome. Thanks.

They all come in boxes... :hattip:

If you want a spacer lift, just get a single spacer to what lift you are going with.

You can still have damage from a spacer lift though.

Yes, they are going to be sold in a box, I am not referring to the physical container in which they are sold...

I do no want a spacer kit, but nor do I want to spend $1250 on a Toytech ultimate kit. I'm just trying to save a few bucks by using the Bilstien 5100 strut upgrade and one of the shims to get to 3".

You have another option too... Fat bobs coilovers. They run about 500 bucks.

Thanks for the tip. I will find some reviews, but the price is closer to what I want to spend.

I hear you man. If I were going to go middle road, ID probably do fat bobs with bilsteins built in. I've got fat bobs with the generic shock they come with. They are pretty good for under 500.

OME is also a solid, well built, and that's a little more affordable.

Sounds like your going to be wasting more money buy buying multiple kits and piecing them together. Fat bobs went bankrupt last summer so I would be worried about warranty. OME would be a good middle ground between Bilstein 5100s and Toytec Ultimate.

They did, but we're bought out.... I was a little worried about that, but I think they are OK. I would still do it over again. But like you say, wasting money isn't a great idea.
