Fuel Door Flimsy

Today I noticed that the fuel door mechanism seems to be a little flimsy. The door doesn't close flush unless I manually push it in place, and even then it's not totally flush. Anyone else notice this? Truck only has 300 miles on it.

 

Yup, completely noticed it the first wash....15k miles ago. Eventually stopped noticing it...

 

Take to dealership still under warranty..i have a 2014 no issues

 

The fuel door didn't sit flush at the beginning. After a while, it worked fine. for me.

 

I just filled up yesterday but I'm pretty sure mine is flush. I'll take a closer look after work and let you know if it's not.

 

Mine is flush, but it is flimsy and made of plastic. That kind of pissed me off but pretty much all new vehicles are made of tin foil and plastic.

 

So I figured out that the fuel cap leash was the culprit. After fidgeting with the cap the door closes flush now.

 

We should be happy we have a real fuel cap! My Brothers F150 has some mickey mouse gizmo that must let dust in if not other trash LOL.

 

So glad I have the cap so I can use it to keep the fuel pump going while I wash windows, mirrors, and lights. Most stations around me have the pump handle locking pins removed and putting 100-120 litres takes a long time at busy stations. I've been around many vehicles with the capless system and never heard of higher fuel filter or pump problem rates with them

 

Plastic fuel door? I wonder when they made the change. My 2015 is steel, flimsy, but not any worse than the bed side.

 

Surely a cost saving decision
