Not trying to start a debate, i'm just curious. I stopped by a local Toyota dealer and was getting maintenance done on my truck. While there, i was walking around checking out the '18's to see what the differences were between the year models. The salesman kept insisting that the Platinum was the higher trim package. I test drove a Platinum which was impressive. The additional features though they were nice and useful, didn't really sway me from wanting to start over with a new one. Besides the Safety Sense and the revised instrument cluster, what other features were added to the 18's? That Smoked Mesquite and Red color did catch my eye...

They are priced exactly the same. I personally prefer the 1794 interior and the Platinum exterior.

They are basically the same, it's just that one has an ugly interior and one has color-matched exterior.

One thing I noticed, other than the new headlights, for 18 they switched the grills up between the two. Prior the Platinum had the same grill as a Limited but color matched and the 1794 looked like an SR5 grill, it's opposite this year.

Longer list than the wife needs to know about....
They are the same, not sure if its still true on the '18s but when I got mine you couldn't get the TRD off road package on a platinum, 1794 you could. Other than that they both use "Lexus grade" leather just pick you favorite color. Platinum has color matched grill surround, 1794 has chrome.
As far as "which one is top of the line". Both they have the same features just cosmetic differences.

In Ford world, the Platinum is one notch higher than the King Ranch (1794 equivalent). I assume it's intended the same way. However, you could argue that the Platinum and 1794 are on the same playing field, just on different ends of the luxury spectrum. Both are the top end model, but one is for people who like chrome and one is for people who like wood grain lol. That's just how I see it.

They are the same trim level basically, the only difference is aesthetic.

I thought they were the same just had the different color interior. But now I see the grills so not sure. I had trouble finding a ‘18 Platinum when I was looking in TX (Houston, San Antonio, Austin)

This in on 2014-2017 Tundras. On the Platinum the grill surround is color matched along with the front bumper. The grill insert on the Platinum is the same as the Limited insert. The 1794 has chrome front bumper ends and a silver center, the grill insert on the 1794 is the same as the SR5 but the horizontal bars are silver to match the bumper instead of gray and of course the exterior badges are different. Interior wise the interior is the same layout just different color scheme. 1794 has saddle colored leather with wood grain accents on the dash, door panels, steering wheel, and shift knob. The Platinum is black leather with a quilted pattern, full leather steering wheel, and silver accent on the shift knob instead of wood. 1794 also has rubber floor mats with saddle carpet inserts and 1794 badges. Platinum floor mats are carpeted with Platinum badges.

Other than that they are exactly the same in terms of features, accessories, and power-train. Both came with or without 4 Wheel Drive. TRD Off Road was available on 1794 but not on the Platinum. I went with the 1794. I loved the interior color and I like the chrome. I've had several vehicles with black leather interior and while it is very nice I wanted a change. Either way you can't go wrong.

I just sold my Mx4 locally to a guy who has a 2014 4x4 1794. I helped him put the cover on and asked him if he would mind if I look at the interior and sit in his truck, the 1794 is very nice and the seats feel way more comfortable then the ones in Limited, they are definitely a step above. The only thing I thought was a little out of place was the shiny faux wood, at that price Toyota could have put real wood grain in the truck like the other manufacturers do.

I agree about the wood. Definitely not a fan. My buddies limited has wood too and it looks so out of place. As far as the seats go, the comfort level and leather quality of the platinum and 1794, IMO make the price jump worth it. Mine are much more comfortable than my buddies limited seats

What's the interior of the 2018 limited look like? Still have wood?

Yes, however, the wood is matte and not shiny anymore. It looks way better then the previous faux wood they used.

I can see how that would look better than that super high gloss wood

One thing I wanna change on my interior is the chrome cup holder trim. It looks out our place even though there's some chrome accents other places on the platinum interior. I want to pull it and paint it black, I would also maybe do the skinny chrome trim in the gear selector area as well but that looks like it'll be hard to do, maybe I'll plastidip that part. The other chrome interior doesn't bug me

I second that. The seats in the 1794/Platinum are more comfotable, supportive, and higher quality than in the Limited. A friend of mine has a 2018 TRD Sport, the leather in his truck feels higher quality than the 2015 Limited but doesn't seem as fine as the 1794/Platinum leather, it is quality leather but seeems like its a harder wearing leather.

In regards to the Faux Wood I can see why they did it. Having owned several BMWs and Merc with wood grain trim I can attest to the pros/cons of real vs faux. The real stuff is actual wood veneer with thick layer of lacquer applied over it then buffed to a high gloss. The upside is that it does look very nice and screams luxury. Keeping it treated with a quality interior care product and out of continued exposure to sunlight is all you really need. The downside is the long term wear and upkeep. In a S-Class Merc or 5 Sereis BMW that doesn't see high amount of severe usage like off road or gravel/dirt so its fairly easy to keep clean. In a truck that may see some more severe usage not so much. The lacuer over it scratches very easily and it also likes to crack after it starts seeing some years of being parked in the sun. When it starts to crack its not as pretty to look at and can start to chip and flake. It is also very expensive to replace. After all it is a truck so I can understand the rational on going with the faux stuff.

Just bought a '19 Platinum. The big difference for me was Chrome or not.

    Not a chrome fan so.........
