    An AAL doesn't "mess" with spring rates. It can "alter" spring rate. Some folks use an AAL to help "tired" springs. Some use an AAL on good springs to help with towing, heavy loads, and gaining lift. Others will chime in. I say add shackles if you rarely haul heavy loads. IMHO...blocks can suck....If you are considering blocks...yes, easier than adding an AAL. Let's wait for more member responses.

    I hate the "bro" lean. Apparently It's cool down southeast. Cool if you never ever put any weight in the bed or god forbid......tow something. To each..their own. An AAL and ToyTec's shackles set at 1.5" should do the trick. If too high then set ToyTec shackles at 1".

    Deaver's are great too....but......I've seen too many Deaver's pulled off. A few here on the forum and on Craig's List for sale used. They can be super stiff as Hell. Nothing wrong with that but get the Deaver's "for your use". IE...towing or hauling heavy loads a LOT.

    Thank you for the Tid-Bit. I guess since I only tow 3-4 times per year maybe an AAL would be the best bet?

    I've heard of the Cali lean. The Louisiana lean but, not the Bro lean. I'm a little partial to the bottoms up lean. If that is what Ya calls it. My vote is for the 1.5in shackle.

    I have both. AAL and ToyTec shackles set at 1.5". I'm considering lowering the shackles to 1" only because of too much rake. How about air bags? Colorado TJ could give you much better insight on this in regards to rear end set ups.

    I think aal is my number 1 choice I have shackles and have regretted it ever since. I had a aal on my tacoma and it made the truck feel so much better. In my opinion the factory leaf setup is way to soft. The aal also helps so much when you haul loads in the bed of your truck or a trailer.

    In Cali it means the same thing. Bros are the dudes with flat brim hat bro hoes and a nose high truck. It’s basically to emulate a pre-runner. But basically useless if you want to tow anything. And pre-runners don’t really sit like that they just give the appearance because of the high clearance fenders. A bro is essentially like the California version of Jersey shore juice head douche bags. LOL

    About 20 years ago it was really popular to have that pre-runner look. And I’ll be honest I thought it was kind of cool too. Now that I’m a grown-up it just looks impractical to drive. I bet it handles like shit.

    I’ll be lifting my truck soon to level it. Until I come up with a solution for the rear, it will look like a bro truck when I am loaded down with gear and a boat going camping.

    I just ordered my ToyTec shackles today. My truck is level but when loaded with all of my kid's swim gear (as it is for the summer) it has a slight bro lean and I only tow a little popup trailer 1-2x a year. I think that a new leaf pack is where I will end up eventually but for now shackles seemed like a better option than blocks.

    Why do you regret the shackles?

    Now I just need to decide if I want to go 1" or 1.5". Down the road I may switch out to a Boss setup and then look at new leaf packs and UACs but for now I think I am done (with my suspension only :D).

    Start at 1" and see how your truck sits. Move up to 1.5" if you need to. A pita but..you do what you got to do!

    Ok, so I am going to avoid blocks.... I have the TRD exhaust though so I'm just not sure about shackles. Honestly I'd love to go that route, but I don't want to be hitting my exhaust pipes while off-road. If I go with the ICON AAL how much would you say install cost is?

    Those ICONs are very good.There are a few guys here with the ICON aals that may also have the TRD exhaust. Maybe they can shead some light on that. Not sure about labor. 2 to 3 hours.

    Stay away from shackles they change the angle of your leaf springs by pushing down on the rear of the spring and help promote flatting them out especially with repeated heavy loads or heavy towing. If want to use extended shackles consider just hauling groceries or use a add a leaf along with the shackle. For a 1” lift a tapered block is 100% the way to go. Bigger heavy duty trucks come from the factory with blocks!!!!

    Lots of us here use CB, Camburg, and ToyTec shackles with zero issues. Most of the time used for only an 1" to 1.5" lift tops. I have the AAL too. Is there some preload on the springs? Are shackles ideal? No. Blocks aren't either. Yeah, street rods will use "oversized" shackles that clearly flatten the springs and ride like crap. On the other hand some aftermarket blocks have been known to shift and also preload the leafs just not as much as shackles. I guarantee I haul more than groceries. Clearly the best route to take is a new set of leafs if "needed". It comes down to personal use. Hauling/towing heavy loads all the time....swap in better leaf packs or at least air bags and Helwig helper spring. In the OPs case.....ICON AALs will work just fine.

    4 years with a 1.5” block and no issues. The Tacomas get axle wrap more than our Tundras do. (At least by feel.)

    I feel the reason the shackles flatten the leaf springs is because nobody extends their bump stops afterwards causing the springs to hyperextend when overloaded or just when flexing. I know even when I’m not loaded down, my stock set up contacts a bump stops on the regular. I can see the shiny spots on the frame. Maybe I’m wrong. Just been thinking about it lately. My solution would be to add super bumps in the back because they set up on a pedestal is about an inch and a half tall maybe less. Idk just thinking.

    Yes but then you get rough ride when unloaded. I found through another thread that the timbren cradle is interchangeable between the superbump. So using the cradle would relocate the point where your suspension would contact causing your stock springs to stay in their normal cycle of function. Then it’s an easy swap with just an allen screw to switch to Timbens if you’re going to tow heavy loads. This may be the route I go in the future. That way you get the plushness of your stock springs but then an option to stiffen everything up temporarily when you haul something.

    Keep in mind I would be adding probably 3+ shackles. Thinking coachbuilder. Although I like the adjustability of the toytec
