Very nice. I am looking to add the AFE on my with the dry air filter. Would like to know if the dry filter is as good or better than the oiled up filters. How do the air flows compare and filtering ability compare?

Uh oh.... heh. Man I have a drop in afe dry filter that I tried running twice. Both times it sacked my mpgs and my low end tq. I put the paper filter back in. I was sure it would help and did it the second time to just try again. Both times I gave it about 1500 miles to test. I wanted so bad for it to work too... you could really hear the woof when you stepped on it and the air flow sounded greatly increased. The other thing is you will get a loud whistle that you will hear from this waffle gasket behind the throttle body. I bought the gasket without the waffle and replaced that and no more whistle. But as I stated. Back to the paper filter and low end and mpgs are back.

Hmm, so it was using the stock box. Sucks that it negatively impacted the mpgs and tq. Was the mpg loss because you were on the skinny peddle too much :)

Ha actually yes... but so I could hold out speed up hills! Yes stock box, and the TRD air flow accelerator. Which probably does nothing. I do have dual exhaust though, so maybe that is why I noticed it so much. I've thought about trying a cai with the duals, but my 300 bucks is going towards a lift first.

So with all the options has anyone been able to verify if they add any HP or MPG?

Yes you can do it yourself. Only risky part is pulling out, protecting and reinstalling the mass air flow sensor.

So I installed my trd intake and right away turned off. Second time it turned on stayed on but makes a whistling sound. RPM won't go below 1 .5 is this normal?

just installed the S & B after problems (CEL) with the aFe Momentum. Returned aFe Momentum to Realtruck.com for full refund, $425. They have been awesome BTW.
S & B installed relatively easily and no CEL...yet. Need to drive a few more days to know if all is kosher. Initially, it makes quite a howl when you punch it. Pretty quiet when your not on the throttle. Very quiet if you leave the plug in. S & B recommends leaving it out unless the outside temp. is high, i.e. 90 degrees and up.
Paid $300 for S & B. Not sure why aFe thinks there product is worth $125 more??
Will post again after a few more days driving.

Although the 5.7L kicks ass, I live at almost 11,000 in elevation and my heavy truck with lift and 35s still has to work hard. What's the best remedy for the elevation I live to get better mpgs and power? Would a good intake be sufficient or should I go with a supercharger?
@Sean266 you seem to be very verse and you're Supercharged, aren't you?
@csuviper you also seem to have plenty of beta.

And I'm sure you know it too.

IF I go that route it'll be waayyy done the road. Did you install it yourself? And if so, was it a chore?

I had Toyota @LOTSOFTOYS do the install. It's around a 10+ hour job.

I have a really hard time believing a performance part would only decrease your performance. Maybe you needed a power commander or something to readjust the air-fuel ratio in your ECU?

Have had the S & B installed for at least 4 yrs., and no problems whatsoever. IMHO, performance is better, but fuel economy not necessarily. I tow a 6500# (empty wt.) TT (2019 Cougar 27RESWE) and maintain no less than 60MPH on steep freeway grades. Have also added Firestone air bags which I inflate to 45-50psi while towing. While not a diesel, the 5.7L in the Tundra is plenty of power to tow 6500# plus at recommended tow speeds of 60-65mph. I often tow at 65-70mph on interstate highways, slower on two lanes.

Perfect. I'm just looking for a throaty sound when stepping on it. Idc about fuel economy but WHY is it cheaper in USA compareto Canada??

It is definitely throatier with the plug out. Not sure why cheaper in U.S.

I ordered the Stillen CAI on April 26 and it hasn’t shipped yet due to COVID-19. They did email me the following day and let me know that due to workplace restrictions they estimated it would ship in 2-3 weeks, so I can’t really fault them for it. I’m just getting a little impatient, lol.

I’ve heard nothing but great things about the S&B and it’s temping to just cancel and grab one from Amazon, but I’m interested in seeing how the Stillen works out.

In my mind it’s similar to the S&B in the sense it had a secondary opening to pull air from, which should be nice for making more noise, and the Stillen should be able to keep that secondary channel open full time whereas I’d have to plug the S&B up in the summer months.

I just recently bought my 2016 Tundra with very low miles and still have life left in the warranty. Has anyone had issues with a CAI causing issues with warranties? Also I'm new to the game with CAIs, so why would the plug in the S&B need to be put in place during the summer? Is it just to keep the warmer engine compartment out?

Yeah, that’s the idea. I’ve heard varying temperatures for when the plug should be installed... a couple YT vids say 75, some 80, etc. In reality I can’t imagine it being any worse than those K&N setups with the divider in the engine bay. I’ve heard people say that the engine getting warm air is still better than no air.

I have no first hand experience with CAI’s and warranties but in general the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act should cover this kinda stuff.
