The wife and I will be in New Orleans for the Memorial Day Weekend (Fri-Tues). We are going to the Bayou festival on Sunday. Any of you local folks recommend must see's while we are there. It looks like the weather will be crap, but what can you do.

    French quarter.
Try port of call off esplanade
    Cafe du Monde
    Crazy Johnny’s

And always keep your head on a swivel. Tourist season is there which means plenty of pickpockets, thugs, and idiots.

Greek Fest is this weekend in NOLA, Lakefront area is nice. Weather forecast is supposed to be nasty on Saturday and Sunday.. I’m headed home to Baton Rouge tomorrow morning.

If anyone tries to stop you and ask you where you got your shoes... just walk away, it’s a scam. The answer is you’ll have your shoes on whatever street you’re on in New Orleans..

    Willie Maes for fried chicken
    Jacque Imos
    Cafe du Monde
    Pat O’s
Oysters & Gumbo - too many options to list
Cochon (not the typical Cajun food)

Those have been some of my favorite places the times I’ve visited.

There are lots of old guard restaurants in the French quarter as well like galatories that are supposed to be great but they’re pretty expensive.

Unfortunately its going to be crappy weather and since its N'Awlins the streets will flood ,dumb people will try to drive through a flooded underpass even though there's a marked unit blocking the way( they go around) and then say I didn't see that fully marked white suburban with the flashing lights on top. Well anyway, have fun and while you're on Bourbon St stay to the main streets and don't wander off onto the smaller side streets and you'll be ok and as many have said remember your situational awareness.

X2, the most impressive museum I’ve ever been in. Well worth the see. Felix’s Oyster bar is a must go as well, their chargrilled oysters are incredible.

Being from that area, I can say most of the places in the Quarter are tourist magnets. If your looking for some good local food and have transportation, venture out a bit from that area. One of my lifelong favorites is Rocky's & Carlo's Restaurant in Chalmette (about 15-20 minutes from downtown). This is the a family type restaurant and is the real thing.
