I previously owned a 2017 Tundra SR5 5.7 4x4 in Inferno color. It was wrecked. Now I just received check from insurance company to go get another truck. I have my eye on a 2018 Tundra Limited 5.7 4x4 Inferno color. Now my question is on my previous truck I purchased GAP for 995.00$, Extended warranty for 2,500.00$. Which was for 5 year/75,000 miles. And a Alarm for 995.00$. Which I thought it had one originally since it said in on sticker price. Which of these add ons do I really need? Just trying to keep my payment low since i will probably be getting a limited which costs a bit more than the SR5

Another question is how do you guys go about asking the dealer to add stuff on your truck without paying like add ons like tonneau cover or spray on bed liners and such

Gap insurance serves to cover the difference between your loan and car value in the event of a total loss.

Extended warranty can be had for way less than $2500. Search this forum for the thread. You should be able to get a prorated or full refund on your now-lost warranty.

The Toyota alarm can also be had for way below $1k. The accessory should be about $200-250 and install is relatively cheap or easy to DIY. A LoJack or similar system is around $500-700.

    Thanks @ninjajay
I will definitely get gap again. Didn’t use it since insurance paid off all the loan. I’m getting a prorated refund for gap and extended warranty.

My limited came with an alarm, not a sophisticated one but an alarm nonetheless.
I haven't had gap insurance since I was a kid with bad credit.
Like @ninjajay said, your extended warranty will carry over to the new truck.
I don't have a dealer that I trust to install and try hard not to pay inflated prices for products or service.

That’s the thing since I’m upgrading trim I want to keep my cost lower. Asking price is 45,895. My previous SR5 was 39,000$. How much lower can I possibly get it. I know it’s a vague question

Any pointers on having dealership add some accessories to the truck?

I bought a 8 year 75 or 80k mile warranty. I forget exactly what I paid but I want to say it was between 15 and $1700. When I got home after purchasing the truck I researched and saw that I got ripped. I went back and bitched at them until they changed my warranty to 10 years 100,000 mile platinum bumper to bumper for the same price. I probably still overpaid but it felt better making them change the paperwork.

Some of those finance guys are sneaky little shits. Signed this initial there fast talk this fast talk that. When I returned I went to a different finance guy that I had a rapport with. Should’ve went to him from the get-go because he typically makes me feel he’s on my side and doesn’t pressure me.

I shit you not I will straight up walk out of the financing to go smoke a cigarette just to make them wait LOL “I don’t know man let me think about it” Hahaha

I also like to see if they’ve got any free stuff. Last time they gave us a pretty cool Toyota soft cooler bag. Then I drink a bunch of their good coffee and Toyota labeled water bottles. Thanks for the apple too. I’m not saying to be a dick but do some research on what the truck is really worth. Check out the same truck at another dealer if you can and put those two dealers up against each other for your business.

There was a thread here where someone was explaining how they do it via email, without even going down to the dealer.

Have you checked TrueCar.com? I called every dealer 4 hours away from my zip code getting price quotes.

Its a Toyota! Who buys an extended warranty? The dealer and I came to an agreed price for my vehicle and as I was starting the paperwork I advised the salesman that I wanted a tonneau cover and a bed extender thrown in the deal. And they did it.

I have been looking at trucks at Toyota dealers around my 100 mile area. I have only found 1 Inferno for sale in Southern California. Brand new Limited. That’s a good idea. I will take my findings to that dealership by the end of this week.

Who buys an extended warranty? I do! Shit happens. This is my first brand new vehicle and I don’t want to be making payments and fixing stuff at the same time. It may be stupid to some but it was a peace of mind for me.
When you come from Chevys Dodges and Fords it’s hard to trust anything. I had a warranty on all of those vehicles and every single one of them more than paid for themselves.

Shop 3rd party for extended warranties. I think I got mine through a company out in California for a 1/4 of the price.

As for the add-ons, I just talked to the sales guy about tow mirrors and tires and floor mats. I shopped other dealers and told him I would like to buy from him but I need these things. So, he gave me shop credit for the parts. I kept it small to built rapport in case something goes wrong and I need to ask for a favor

It never hurts to ask. Ask for all of the the things you are interested in. If you ask for one, that is all you will or might get. Tell them that certain items will seal the deal. If they want to sell, they might counter with one or a few items.

At the prices you can get in the extended warranty thread, it's almost a no brainer for me. Little things should easily add up to what the warranty cost me over 8 years/100k (the term I picked).

most insurance companies offer the equivalent of dealership GAP insurance in your car insurance. I have the 2 year new replacement car insurance from Farmers on my Camry.

I got my gap insurance for under $400 through my credit union. I didn’t even think to ask my insurance company LOL

Ext. Warranty seems real high. Don't you get 3 yr 36 month for free? $2500 for 2 more years, not worth it. I lean against E.W.'s (unless its free), my reasoning, if there is a problem it will show in those 1st 3 years. You can always buy one later.
