Doesn't work. Doing his would require at least 2 armed & trained, ready to address anyone caught with a weapon. And having hundreds of kids queue up outside to get into a school this way, effectively gathers unprotected kids outside as easy targets for drive-by assailants. Casualties would increase exponentially. I studied this when I was on a school board; i kept hearing it will work, but it won't.

I will say this is really sad. And I feel these kids get the idea to do this because they’ve seen it before and it puts it in their head. I’m going to go ahead and stop there.

I hear you. Times are clearly different. The way kids are being raised, lack of respect, I want it now, winning is a bad thing, and most importantly>>>social media. Good but also bad. Bullying is a huge problem. We do have culture issues. A good topic but not here. I feel bad for the victims, their families, and community. This is getting old but as mentioned earlier.......you can't legislate behavior. It needs to be dealt with the community and family level.

Fine idea! No problem with that (except that staffing costs, as @smslavin already mentioned). My concern is this idea that metal detectors will stop mass violence. It just moves it into the bottleneck in front of the metal detector. The U.K. concert shooting last year was illustration.

Keep in mind that 70 years ago was only better if you were a white, straight, Christian male. Not reigniting a debate, but people talking about how much better things were back then always bothers me.
70 years ago, not all of us here could vote, drink from the same fountain, or eat at the same restaurants.
70 years ago, some members here would be hanged for looking at a white woman, and no one would care.

Like I said, not trying to argue. I just hate the “good old days” mindset. Some things are worse, but only some. The world as a whole is safer than its ever been. The world in my opinion is overall better than the one I grew up in, and I’m only 42.

The deadliest school massacre in US history was in 1927. A guy used explosives to kill 38 elementary kids and six adults. Another 52 were injured.
Craziness like this isn’t new. I think it’s happening more frequently because it’s more publicized. Used to be, most crazy people just took themselves out. Now they try to take others with them, because they see others do it.

Agree, the “good ol days” weren’t all good.

You can have morals and know right vs wrong independent of religion. And in some cases, religion is independent of morals.

My heart goes out to all the people affected by yet another school shooting.

I'm still waiting for the ol' gun ban agenda to come back into full swing. Again.

But wondering if it will or not since an AR-15
aka "Assualt Rifle" was not used.

    Still such an awful tragedy

Today has been very difficult for us, this School is very close to home, only about 15-20 miles away. I do believe the root of this problem stems from a lack of parenting and overall moral values. There may be a mental health element but think good parenting would alleviate most of if not all of these types of incidents.

I just saw this and think applies:

Boys needs strong, male role models.

    Boys need encouragement.

    Boys need to make mistakes.

    Boys need to play outside.

    Boys need to get dirty.

    Boys need to grow.

    It's how boys become men.

Oh man this is truly another sad day for all involved. The community will take years to recover. It truly hurts all of our hearts here and make our blood boil. No law will stop evil period. Only swift action will. I am thankful for the men and women here who would gladly jump to action in defense of children and their fellow countrymen. I encourage everyone to pray for peace and healing to all involved. Be safe Be vigilant Tundra family.

Agreed. And as horrible as it is to say it - statistically speaking, things like this are going to happen more and more. The population is growing and growing (although I read something recently saying that we are slowing down a bit....that is good). You are going to get more and more people with their wires crossed, or more and more situations where people snap, or more and more....whatever. Point is that we have more and more people. That means more and more bad things are bound to happen.

The problem is that since recorded history, when individuals and even countries lose their moral compass, no matter where and how their morals are derived, things don't usually end up well...

After reading the latest updates about yesterdays shooting.....totally senseless. Apparently no major signs that the "murderer" would do this horrific crime. The SRO clearly saved a lot of lives. I'd know one thing...I'd know if my kid was making pipe bombs, pressure cooker bombs, and would not have access to my firearms. Sad day in Texas. Kids to need to be safe in schools. I want my grands kids to be safe in school. I can't imagine the pain the families are going through.

America, while not perfect, is still the best model of a country ever! Our founding fathers gave the big FU to King George. How punk rock is that? Here is a screen shot from a social worker that is undercover and has to hide their political identification due to the rabid drug induced brainwashing thats taken place since the hippies (and now their spawn the hipsters) took over. I think it fits this thread well.

    Terrible, terrible situation.

I was bullied mercilessly as a kid like some other guys mentioned, but never thought to make everyone suffer for the actions of the instigator.

Situations like this that hit home hard - knowing it could happen to anyone including our kids - are easily polarized and politicized. Our nerves are raw and the injection of hot topic opinions (God, gun control, video games, morals, political party etc) doesn’t help matters.

Such topics have no place on forums, social media, etc. No one ever won or will win an argument on the ‘net. Best to just leave it be

These heart wrenching things shouldn’t happen whatsoever, but sad fact is they do.

Thoughts and prayers going out to all involved. Wish more could be done on a personal level.

Exactly. Like I said, nerves are raw (and probably will stay raw considering the frequency of this crap happening) nothing will ever be able to make those affected feel better but time and even then, it’ll still hurt.

Glad there are guys who can make a difference and do so, like Watt helping relieve a small part of the pain.

I would welcome that in a heartbeat. Even if it was just a consult, sometimes a kind face and a “you’ll be okay” can mean the world to some.

Details are still a little murky at this point, but a kid brought a gun to my daughter’s school today. Apparently another kid found out, and tipped off the school. He was caught and arrested before he did anything, thank goodness.
The story is jumbled up at this point, but there’s conflicting stories. The school and media are implying that he was apprehended without incident, but my daughter says he actually pulled it out at lunch and started threatening to kill himself. She may have heard incorrectly though, as she was in a different part of the school.
I just know that right when I’m getting back from lunch, the school sends out a message that they’d received a tip and taken him into custody, and that the school was on lockdown.

That shit’s terrifying. All I could think was what if there were more than one, with my daughter there, and my son in a school right next door? It seems to have been handled really quickly, but for about an hour I was scared to death. They sent them home early and cancelled after school activities.

They are not allowing backpacks for the rest of the year, and will have police there 24/7. I’m thinking they just need to start summer early and start trying to figure shit out going forward. Things are too tense right now. They need to just step back and reevaluate everything.
