I am new to this forum. I know this is one of the most commonly asked line of questions on here and I apologize for being a newbie but I can’t find a consensus for my end result. I’ll admit, I use this forum quite often to trouble shoot any problems I might be having but decided tonight to create an account because I need some guidance. I’ll start off with I’m in no way a turn wrench. I have an ‘07 Crewmax that is currently factory all the way around. I purchased a 3” front and rear leveling kit recently and have purchased some new wheels, Moto Metal 18x9 MO951’s. I’m waiting to buy tires, Cooper Discoverer STT Pro 305 70R18’s. I know I’ll have some rub issues to look into from previous reading on here, and I am ready to potentially face those when the time comes. I also purchased new UCA’s, SPC adjustables and a differential drop kit. My next question is shocks; what route should I go? The shocks on my truck appear to be OEM replacements. It’s a 3” front and rear leveling kit. I don’t tow anything and just want the clearance for the aggressive meat on new tires. I am an avid hunter and fisherman, so it does get a bit of a workout but I am no trail crawler or mud runner by any means. I see Billsteins mentioned on this thread a lot. I just want to make sure my leveling kit has shocks that will level out, pun intended, the new ride my truck will endure. Sorry for the novel but just want to get all the upgrades I have waiting to be installed in the next couple weeks but the new shock dilemma is holding me up from dropping my truck off. I have a local reputable shop doing my install and figured why they’re already working on that area, might as well get the shocks replaced. Look forward to being schooled on the forum and will definitely be posting some pictures after the installs are complete.

it sounds like your "kit" is just spacers... since just about any other lifting method comes with shocks. if that is the case, then you really dont need to get shocks. but if you do want to get new shocks, 5100's are an inexpensive option.

You’re correct, it’s just spacers and blocks. My thought was if I upgrade my shocks, I might gain back some of the ride I lose from the spacers and it could possibly help me with the tire rub issue? I have about $400-$600 I could spend.

Here’s another option. Doesn’t get you quite 3 inches of lift, but it does cover the front and rear lift without blocks or spacers. If you want to get a full 3 inches out of the front, a Coachbuilder shim for each front coil over. Don’t forget to extend your bump stops. Just get some bump stop spacers from the same site. A little more money than you were hoping to spend but it will be done right.

I’d just slap some coil overs on and remove the spacers. Toytec is a great vendor up in here!

Improves the ride a ton! (Ask me how I know!) pay once cry once.

You'll be happier with your ride quality if you return the spacers and use a coil over and shackles to achieve the lift you want. Blocks on the the rear induce or are more prone to axle wrap, from what I've read.

    I agree.

I put 3” spacers on my truck and a week later replaced with FB coil overs, they have been great on and off-road. Toy techs are great too.

Pale Horse, did the kit from FB come with struts for the coil overs or just the coil overs and you get your own struts? I’m pretty sure I’m going to go this route to get the full 3” in the front and probably stick with the 3” blocks in the rear that are in the leveling kit I have. The option I selected comes with the Fox 2.0 rear shocks. I got my tires mounted and balanced today and I’m excited to get this lift to bolt these bad boys on. Hoping I don’t have to do too many mods to get them to fit without rubbing.
The picture is the tire and wheel setup laid in front of my stock wheel with Goodyear’s on it now.

Hey. The coilovers include everything you need for the the front. I believe they ship them out set at 3” height they bolt directly in place of your stock setup. No need for spring compressors and taking all that apart.
Stock with blue spacer on top:

    FB coilovers:

3” is a lot of lift for the rear(especially with a block) I only lifted 1” in the rear(shackle lift+bilstein 5100 shocks) and 3” up front and truck sits just about perfect on top of 35”s IMO:

35x12.5 radar renagade MT(runs a tiny bit smaller than toyo/nitto 35x12.5) on 18x9 +18. No BMC just massaged some plastic with heat gun and took about 1/4” off inside of bumper with angle grinder.

I ordered my coilovers and rear shackles today from FB. Have my truck set to go in once they arrive. I’m pretty excited to get it all done. Did you have to extend your break lines any?

I didn’t have to mess with brake lines. I do remember throwing some washers on the bumpstops tho.

Also you may want to get a sway bar drop kit if you care about the sway bar functioning properly. It really doesn’t matter you can run it without the drop kit or just remove the sway bar entirely(that’s what I did).

I called FBG and asked them about the sway bar. They said the kit we bought does not require the sway bar relocation kit. If it was higher than the 3”, then it would. The shop doing my install said they can order one if they get into the install and see it needs one. Kit should be in Thursday.

Welp, she got her new sneakers today. They told me the lift went on pretty easy and the shop guys said they were doing the alignment in the morning. Looks like they did take out some of the front wheel well inner liner due to rubbing. When I talked to them earlier in the day, they just finished and we’re going to check for any mods needed for clearance. I couldn’t handle not seeing it until tomorrow, so I swung by to get a sneak peak. I’m pretty happy with the stance and the appearance. Waiting to hear back in the morning on any rubbing issues, but I’d guess since they’re doing the alignment, it must be good to go. 2D538CD8-F0A1-4B1E-953A-C1DD6EDBC3F3.jpg

Thank you! I’m pretty excited to get it back tomorrow. Traveling out to the in laws for the weekend, so I will get a chance to see how she handles on the 3 hour drive. Next up is the front window tint and decide what to do about the exhaust. Always something :spending:

Okay, I’m here to give a good, 500 mile round trip review of my travel with the new setup. I picked it up from the shop on Friday. I didn’t have much time to check things out before we had to hit the road. I checked it at full lock and no rub! Drove like a champ, city speeds and highway speeds. Little bumpier than the stock setup, but I came to expect that. After we got out to the in laws, I had a chance to check things over really well the next morning. I noticed I had a very small rub before full lock, but I mean, very small and just before full lock. I had my brother in law turn the wheel for me so I could check the rub point and it is tenths of an inch rub with the cab. The shop did remove the mud flaps and inner bumper liner prior to me picking it up, so I’m sure it would have rubbed there but I didn’t have to worry since they were pulled off. I don’t have fog lights, so I told them to just take the liner out. So, to recap, 3” coilovers with new SPC uca’s, 35”x12”x18” Cooper Discoverer STT Pros on 18”x9” Moto Metal 0951 wheels, very and I mean very, small rub on cab, just before full lock. I also added a 1” rear shackle lift and new Fox series 2.0 shocks to the rear and it sets pretty damn close to level. Overall, I’m very happy with the mod and thanks to everyone for giving suggestions, opinions and welcoming me to the forum. Especially @Pale_Horse Fat Bob’s was a great call on your part and I’m very pleased, in a limited sample size, with their product. A side note, I did add a TRD air filter and the TRD air flow accelerator prior to the lift. I could notice a difference in the way the truck ran, for the good. Looking forward to some more mods in the future! Probably exhaust and maybe some LED DRL headlights.

Awesome man. I’m glad you like it. I don’t know why FBG doesn’t get more love than they do. They are a great budget option.

I agree. I got exactly what I was looking for without breaking the bank. I’ll definitely be looking through their site for any future projects on my next Tundra. I think an exhaust upgrade is up next for me. With the lift and all that meat, the stock exhaust is just too wimpy.
