    Hello,

I purchase a factory bed liner from Toyota. It is the bed liner that coincides with the rail system. I need some advice about some do's and dont's when installing. I have the instructions, but would like some first hand input.

    Thanks

Nothing special about installing a bedliner, just put it in the bed and push it under the rails...or follow the Toyota supplied instructions.

I'm not sure where you are but if you were in NorCal I would have given you my brand new liner for free...

I live in Portland, OR. Wonder what the shipping cost of that would be. How come you are wanting to give it away? Why not turn it back in for a refund?

I doubt they'd issue a refund. A lot of guys want the spray in, myself included but I don't have they money for one. I've seen the plastic drop ins on local Craigslist for cheap to free here in CT. If I got spray in I'm sure I'd have a tough time giving my drop in away.

I was told as long as it had no scuffs on it and you bought it within a certain time they would let me bring it back and get my money back. I chose to keep it because the impact rating is higher according to What I have read and Toyota themselves have told me.

Dealer did not want to consider a refund. Also, this is sized for a DC (6.5 foot bed), wouldn't work on a CM.

They are definitely good as far as impact protection. I'd assume better than a spray in. My hope is that I don't get any rust or corrosion under it like some have experienced. I have a tonneau that keep everything pretty dry so I think I'm good. Some day I'll pull the liner out and look at the bed, seems like that's going to be a project though, but i really should do it soon

Well, there is really nothing to it to "install" a drop in bed liner. On the other hand if you buy it at the dealer they will probably put it in for you free.

OP, it’ll install easy if you follow the instructions. Make sure you have a torx to fit the front bulkhead seal thing, tailgate piece, and to pull the side rails if you have to do that (I can’t remember exactly). It installs really quick.

Ya spray on is much better. Cleaner look. The plastic bedliner shifts and can scratch up the bed of the truck that it’s suppose to be protecting, hold moisture under it. I wouldn’t be surprised if in the winter in real cold climates it could get brittle and crack or break when using it. I scrapped my bedliner for bullet liner and love it

^ spray in liner isnt for everyone. I also prefer the drop in liner for a several reasons. sliding in gear is much easier and safer on the gear itself, impact resistance (and no its not brittle). no bolt heads protruding through the floor. containment of water/ fluids. more protection for the bed itself overall.

I can slide in a delicate surf board, or a 1000 pound tool box without worry of damage or scuffs to the cargo. cant do that on a spay in liner without putting something down first which kind of defeats the purpose of hassle free hauling.

scratches to the truck bed over time?? its a pickup truck bed not a museum piece. i dont think anyone cares if their drop in liner 'scratches' the bed

spray in liners are all the rage because there is money to be made from ppl opening their wallets to installers.

True. Whatever tickles your pickle I spose. Problem with scraatching up the paint and the containment of water is like around here in New York they dump so much salt in the winter over time your box is gonna rust out. If you don’t plan on keeping a truck very long it wouldn’t matter or for those in the West with little to no rain, snow or salt. I’d have to look at my sticker but I’m sure Toyota prolly charges 299 for the drop in liner my spray on was a little over 4 with an unlimited lifetime warranty. Let’s see Toyota warranty their liner if you break it. But like you said not for everyone.

On my 1st gen, I slid it in from the back, pushed until I had resistance and then relieved that resistance by pulling up on the middle of the liner at the tailgate end (creating a flatter “w”). Doing that narrowed it and I just pushed it forward from the rear of the way in.

Hope this makes sense and helps you.

Does anyone know if you can buy plugs for where the tiedown are? Hauling dirt and debris will definitely fall between the liner and the bed. It does a good job of draining water, but the build up of debris can be an issue. Thanks.

Scratching the bed? They have to sand the bed to install a spray in. Also, if you drop something heavy in the back of your truck you are, more than likely, getting a dent. I like the spray ins. It is a good product. If my truck gets too scuffed or scratched I’ll get it sanded and get a spray in installed. But I’ll hold off as long as possible. Dents are costly to take out.

Right they sand it down to apply the spray that protects its. what I’m saying is the bed line can shift and rub/scratch the paint under the line as well as hold moisture under it. In places where they use tons of salt in the winter that’s not really cool. Just my two cents do what you what :bananadance:

I just pulled my bedliner out. So this has been in there since 2014 and it tore up the bed rubbing it down in some spots to bare metal. Ordered proffesional grade roll on liner anf will be doing that with my bud @CarlitosWay. But from what i have experienced i will never get another plastic bedliner again.

I still have it and it can be yours if you want it. I live in Ukiah and I have it down in my shop. As a reminder, it is for a DC, 6.5 foot bed.

I put an OEM Toyota rubber bed mat in my Crewmax.Cost was $130 shipped.Didn't want a sprayed in bed liner. The rubber mat is pretty thick and will definitely protect the bed of the truck from dropped objects and scuffing.
