well i have drank the kool aid and i am going to level my truck with height adjustables. I am going to get the 6112's up front but i am debating the rear and nobody here seems to break down the difference between the 5100 rear and 5160 rears, besides the obvious. are the 5160's that much better than the 5100's when paired with the 6112's?

I went with the 5160. It’s larger and with a reservoir it will cool faster which my thinking will add to longevity.
The 5100 really seems to be no different than the stock 4160 other than I believe it will allow for a rear lift.
Don’t quote me on that but from my research that’s what I’ve found.
If you plan to stay on pavement I’m sure the 5100 will be just fine.
If your looking for tech specs and differences go to Bilsteins website and check them both out.

yes, i looked into it and the 5100 is essentially the 4600. i guess my question is what you guys think about the two. do the 5160 guys think it changes the ride?

I just went with 5160 this week. I figured considering it wasn’t much more than 5100, why not. The reservoirs look bad ass too, IMO.

True..,Until the hose and fittings connecting the reservoir to the shock rusts and corrodes. :D

    Still look cool though

True, but if we cared about rust, corrosion and wear, we would all be riding around in fiberglass tubs.

Umm, couldn’t that happen just to the shock itself if youre in a place where rust is a big concern???

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Wouldn’t that happened to even the best of shocks or coilovers? Even if everything is made out of aluminum or stainless, it will corrode in the right conditions. I know I would be wiping mine down every now and again because they just look so sweet. Maybe even blast them with some fluid film. If the shock is rusting, so is everything else under the truck.

5160s are probably overkill for a pavement princess. I had them on my 2013 Tacoma and they were great for running rough ranch roads at 30-40 mph which I really should not have been doing anyway. On pavement I don't think they really made much diff. Now if you have money to spend and just want to say "hey look I have rrs" then fine.

i just wanted to see someone actually say they got them based on how cool they look with the reservoir. that's honestly the only reason i will probably end up with them, they look cool

I got them because they look cool. Way more cool than the scrawny looking 5100..

So really there is no difference aside from the external reservoir? Do they both support the same lifts?

No the valving is different. A quick google search and you can find all the specs on both.
