2012 Bogs down upon accelerating

just purchased my 1st Tundra. After a few days of driving it bogs down upon quick acceleration. Truck has AFE air box, I have seen on a few threads that a stock box is the way to go with a drop filter. Anyone else has this issue? What fixed issue.

 

Check the AFE filter. If good...........Check your Mass Air Flow Filter. May not be the problem but can't hurt.

Fuel filter?

 

I hear the engine grasping for air..

 

I thought fuel filter too, but if it's gasping, that's lungs. So, yeah, check those filters. Let us know.

 

I have a 4.7 and had an exhaust and drop in filter and it bogged it down like crazy. After putting the stock exhaust and filter back on everything went back to normal. I've heard people dynoing the tundras and with exhaust and or intake it actually results in a loss of low end horsepower at a 10hp average. And the Toyota ECU is too hard to tune.

 

80k. So I cleaned the AFE filter and the MAF sensor, runs better, but still grasps for air. At 60 mph, touch pedal slightly and you hear a sound like an air line when hitting the release. Maybe a throttle adjustment or get rid of the cold air intake BS.

 

Pull the air cleaner element all together and take a quick trip to the next exit or two down the freeway. Don't leave it like that, but it will give you an idea if the AFE is the culprit.

 

I have had my 2012 tundra for a month now and notice that if I'm coming down a hill and let off the gas the truck sounds like its hitting another gear while decelerating or if I let off the gas going at high speeds and idk if that's normal?

 

Um, no. Terrible idea. Dusting an expensive engine will be... ...uh... ...expensive.

 

I wouldn't drive it down the dirt county roads, but it shouldn't hurt anything driving down the paved interstate a couple miles.

 

And that is why NOBODY but me works on my vehicles. SMH.

 

For trouble shooting purposes maybe you have a friend that you can swap their stock intake on. Or if you have your old intake. I always keep my old stuff. In the past I've had friends and family that had nothing but trouble with K and N oiled drop in filters or intakes. I knew someone that had a 4Runner that had a K and N intake and it had a CEL and wouldn't even run! After they put a stock intake back on CEL went away and no more problems whatsoever weird..

 

Gotcha. Puzzles me that the engine has a hesitation upon pushing the gas pedal headed down the road.

Anyone else have this issue?

 

Own 2010 tundra 2wd 5.7 started 2 days ago. At stop to go hard acceleration it bogs down. Truck is all stock. But above let's say 30 and hard acceleration it's all good. Will narrow issue this weekend. Had my 100000 mile tune up 3 months ago. But since weather changed from super hot to cooler temps issue started. Have less then half tank fuel now. Maybe bad fuel cap. Water condesatiin at tank. Dirty mas sensor bad air filter.
