Checking nuts on new suspension

    Somebody mentioned in a thread the other day about rechecking all points for tightness after new suspension parts installed but I couldn’t find the thread.

    I had 6112/5160 installed about 5000 miles ago. I just checked (thanks to whoever brought it up) and the 4 nuts on the front on both sides were not tight. Got a full turn easy on all of them. I have no idea what the torque is but I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t get a turn out of them. All the rest seemed fine. The front middle bolt that is 3/4 was tight but I didn’t mess with it because it looks like your shock is attached and I didn’t want to muscle that bastard.
    Check your nuts, lol.. if you have had new components put on. I just learned a good lesson..

    I too wanted to start a thread regarding retorque after lift kit installed or how often, starting to hear noises, bout truck with 26000 no noises, now at 53000 hearing quite a few, a lift shop quoting me $150, this ok???

    When I pulled the VIN # it showed that the original dealership sent my Tundra to get lifted, so I went to the shop that did it, told em about all these noises, they quoted me that price, that fair?

    The front (4 top bolts) torque spec is 33 ft lbs. Mine were nowhere close to that.

    I too have the 6112/5160 combo and I'm glad I read this, I'll be checking ASAP! Luckily nothing fell off yet lol!

    I'll check the install instructions for torque specs if I can find them!

    I ordered the one above and it’s legit. Comes in a nice case with a calibration certificate. Any particular brand to shy away from, Matt?

    The term retorque is misleading. Almost all bolts on our suspension have, and require thread locking compound on them. Once set, you cannot get an accurate torque reading without removing the fastener, cleaning, and re install/torque. Any good mechanic knows to witness mark fasteners with a paint pen when torqued. The retorque is actually looking at the paint marks, making sure they have not moved. If you find loose suspension fasteners, need better installer, nobody retorques suspension on any new vehicle...
    Seems about right if they are doing it properly.
