I'm not 100% sure but I think all shock oil (for the upper tier shocks) should be very similar?

Are you rebuilding yourself? I've never messed with truck shocks before, but plenty of mountain bike and motocross shocks/forks. Some are very specific on running oil of their brand or their exact rating, this is to preserve the material that the seals and wipers are made of. I'd have to imagine with the right tools the rear shocks should be easy to rebuild.

I would say the only thing they don’t have going for them is that they are not bypass shocks, other than that everyone seems to like them. Unless of course they are into high-speed wheeling or alot of dirt roads. But for the typical occasionally off road trek I think they’re great from what I’ve read.

    This.

The shock oil will also coincide with what kind of valving is done to it. Best to use what the company says to use i.e. their stuff. A piggyback reservoir like this is just like a dirtbike shock.

That's just it Sean. Obviously there are a ton of shocks out there that are better than the 5100's, but you go with what your doing with your Tundra . This set-up was recommended by Toytec to fit my needs and it's a great set-up . If I was burning up the trails my set-up would be entirely different . There's quite a few guy's running this combo with good results . All good:thumbsup:

I’m so tempted buy these used pro shocks for sale in the marketplace right now. Keep going and looking at your exact set up wondering if it would be enough for me. For the price the pro shocks kind of bridge the gap between full bypass and mono shocks. I can’t justify spending three grand on what I’d really love. I just know I wouldn’t abuse my truck that way. Im into slow romping and enjoying the scenery. Lots of dirt roads. I also don’t want to have to rebuild or replace often. I keep coming back to the 6112.

6112's up front are great paired with the 5160's for what your talking about doing. The Pro shocks are a sweet deal. DOOOOOO IT:thumbsup:

    Well well quite the interest...

I guess my comment came across a bit snotty. All I was getting at was icons shock packages are in a different league than the 6112’s and on a completely different planet than the 5160’s.

It made me kinda chuckle that you recommend them as a replacement for Icon.

5160’s are simply a 2” OD monotube shock. Very little valving at all and no real progressive/digressive valving. Outside of the external reservoir which holds the extra fluid there’s very little dampening. And frankly a 2” OD shock is no match for the weight of our trucks.

6112’s, while are a 2.5” OD shock with progressive valving they don’t contain any internal bumpstop tech or zone valving.

A more appropriate replacement for the icon shocks would be a King (2.5”, 3), ADS, Fox (2.5 or 3”) or another Icon.

And before anyone asks. I have run 6112’s on my truck. Was one of the first 10 or so pairs installed on the forums several years back. Nice improvement over stock, but not on the same level as what I mentioned above.

But from the looks of that shock and all the rust under -- I don't think he is in Socal or Arizona. A lot easier to drop off at a local shop if possible. Otherwise I would ship to Icon directly if you had to ship them out. Most dirt bike shops should be able to handle it especially if you provided the seals and oil.

Well kstateskier, snotty na not at all. Misleading maybe , possibly, probably so. May I suggest you go back and read post # 3, 6, and particularly 7 then my suggestion makes quite the sense. Adam hits the nail on the head with a 16# maul. We build our Tundras to suit our needs, and in this case would be a great set-up for Mark. I agree with rebuilding the Icons, just offering another choice. I'm a realist, and realistically if they were OEM shocks and someone wanted to replace them with the mindset of crusin town, Icon with reservoirs are overkill. Just my opinion. I'm pretty sure there's some members here that would agree with me as far as the 6112/5100 combo. Thanks for your post:thumbsup:
