Yea, Toyota has been great. My wife has a 2005 Camry4cyl with 210k miles on it and still kicking it. Now that she has a new Murano, that Camry sorta became my project car. Threw a E85 kit in it with E85, it drives faster and more smooth (for almost 2 years now, the fuel line leak they said?;) )

I gotta say tho, I have owned a few Nissans including the FX35 that I am driving, I have ZERO problem. The CVT does do some weird shit but I drive manual mode most of the time so I don't feel it.

Alright, guys, I am back with Tundra. Thanks for all the inputs
** Don't shoot me. I didn't mean to stir any shit up.:rofl:

In your case it works, for me its a wash. I have to pay taxes at purchase and 1k a year in city taxes to own my truck, so if I keep it 10yrs that's an extra 10k the Tundra cost me to own because of high resale. If your keeping the truck till the wheels fall off then resale isn't really an issue.

You got it! Dang shame that we are getting hammered for buying a vehicle that holds value. My 2012 Tacoma is still getting taxed at $550 a year, so resale is hurting me here. Its costing more for me to own these high resale vehicles.

That really sucks and seems criminal that you pay taxes on the same truck year after year.

Yeah, I wish it was just on driving mileage, but you also Pay on boats, trailers, campers etc.

I had a buddy who owned a first gen titan And he had it tuned, that thing was quick! His issue with the truck was passenger side rear axle seals going bad. I don't remember the cause, other then that he had a radiator go bad. He put over 200k on that truck.

Yeah, but right now local Ford dealer is discounting that $50k truck by $13k. The big 3 start with a high MSRP to offer big discounts and make people think they got a good deal.

Here, in Cali, I pay property tax on the land underneath my boat though I don't own that land, even if it's in the water. Then I pay "luxury tax" on the boat itself.
I guess there are a lot of people that would love to have our problems.

I just “adopted” my mom’s 2003 Lexus LS 320 (or some numbers strung together) and the tech is outdated, to the point where I had to listen to FM and had no idea how hot it really was outside. The paint is chipped in a few spots, I don’t have much headroom compared to my Tundra, and I won’t be able to get much in the trunk, BUT.....it’s a 2003 with 176,000 miles on it and it feels brand new when I hit the gas.

My point...it’s “tech free” and it’s a Toyota made vehicle with a ton of life left in it. I was looking for a DD when my mom unexpectedly purchased a 2018 Accord and couldn’t bear to get rid of the Lexus. Therefore, I toss a few bales of pine straw and build a fire pit to be rewarded with a “tech free” Lexus that still feels brand new. Would I have purchased it? Nope, but I’ll be much happier with a loan free, tech free, ride rather than get something less reliable for a lot more $$

The bare naked truth....the Titan is just an ugly truck IMHO. My neighbor recently bought a 18 Platinum loaded Titan, it was back in the shop for a new radio which took a 3 weeks to replace right after he took delivery. WT? That should have been his first “clue” as we used to say in my former career. It’s now been in the shop often since then for who knows what.
I have seen a parking lot full of different dealer loaners in his driveway. He is at the dealership so often surely they know him by his first name....It’s gotta totally suck.
And beyond lack of reliability being a total show stopper, any camera would never override reliability or be a decision or deal breaker for by a car or truck.

    FWIW....

Yep, true fact. I’ve described this basic dilemma of Toyota ownership in other threads. Because of the quality and reliability, our trucks will rarely be worn out before the technology is obsolete. If having state of the art technology is what matters most to you, you would have to get a new vehicle every 2 to 3 years.

oh come on, our trucks arent winning any beauty pageants either gents...
Tundra closely resembles a cinder block.

the titan xd still tows more... im a little shocked that the towing capacity with a freaking cummins is only 11.4k though.

when i think of Nissan, the first thing that comes to mind is not a full size truck... kind of odd man out in the market imo.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Based purely on aesthetics, I think the Tundra comes a close second to the Dodge Ram. The Ford and GM offerings aren't nearly as handsome, and the Titan, to my eyes, is almost as bad as the Ridgeline.

The new Ridgeline tho, is just at it's own category of "Fugly" for sure!!
It almost looks like someone just chopped the Pilot's rear roof off and make the rear section into a convertible.

I loved my '06 Titan, it was a great truck for the 9 years I drove it. The new one is balls fugly though, IMO.

I'm surprised we're still using keys. My 2006 BMW doesn't use a key. My 2010 Lexus doesn't use a key. Corollas don't use a key.

Let face it. The Tundra is getting long in the tooth compared to the competition. It's last revision was in 2014 and the engine has been around forever. It's outpowered, out gas mileaged, out techologied, and out belled and whistled by everyone else out there making trucks. Per either US News and World Report or Business Week, Toyota sales of Tundras is losing market share because of the age of the design while other manufacturers are showing increases in the full size truck market.

I bought a Toyota truck because my 1996 4Runner is still going strong and I've only had to replace a starter, valve cover seals, and rear wheel bearings in over twenty years. So other than maintenance, it's cost me about $100 per year for repairs. This is my 12th Toyota and all have been outstandingly reliable. That and Honda. My Fords, Nissans, BMWs, and Lexus, not so much. And the Lexus only because of the way they designed the stupid thing. Who has to take an intake manifold off to replace the spark plugs or not have a rebuild kit for the CV joints?

I figure mine is pretty much the econo box of the bunch. I could have gotten one with leather, power everything (my wife is grumpy over her seat not being powered, not having seat warmers, not leather, or padded enough) but hey, it's a truck that I want to be able to take me to the snow and tow my trailers and boats. And she's the one that bought it for me.

As long as the 4WD, AC, and radio work, I'm good. (Oh, and the intergrated GPS is great.)

The 3rd gen Tundra is the best looking truck on the road, hands down.

Also, someone said something about the Cummins Titan towing ability. You have to look at the whole truck, just because it's got a Cummins doesn't mean it can tow what a 2500 or 3500 ram can. The Titan XD has the same axles as the regular Titan, where as the ram hd's have bigger axles, than the 1500, heavy duty leaf springs etc.

Sorry B737,I have to disagree with you.I really dig the looks of the tundra (minus all that chrome). It has a traditional "beefy" stance/look that I like.I'm just not into all the angles and body sculpting of the other brands. The Ford front end looks like a game of pick up sticks gone horribly wrong.

I think the Tundra is only beaten in MPG's on paper. Probably the biggest culprit to trickery on this are Ford with their Ecoboost engines. I work with a lot of guys who own F150's, and they all complain about the gas mileage their V6 Turbo's are getting. Most are averaging mixed about 15 MPG, which is 1 MPG worse than I get in my Tundra. I'd be willing to bet Ford probably optimized conditions in testing to get the numbers they got, but real world driving changes things significantly. I have other friends who have owned Dodge Rams, and have said the HEMI is notoriously thirsty. Not sure how much the 8 speed transmission mitigates that, but I suspect not a whole lot. As for the cylinder deactivation of the GM trucks, no thanks.

Overall I don't disagree with the other criticisms you have, I'm just hesitant to beat the Tundra up too much over MPG's. I think all the full size trucks are roughly the same in this area, though Toyota might be the only one who is being honest about it on the new vehicle window stickers.

I forgot about the 6 speed tranny vs everyone else's 10 speed. But, I'd rather have reliability and longevity than bells and whistles.

They stay off the turbo, and probably use manual shifting to change gears at 1500-2000rpm.

My best friend has a 2017 Titan. His looks pretty good. He likes it, but he’s had to take it back in several times. The door wasn’t aligned correctly, so it sounded like a window was cracked when he was driving.

His was also eating up the tires way too fast. The dealership kept telling him it was aligned properly, and wasn’t helpful. I started looking online, and saw that many Nissan dealerships hadn’t updated their alignment specs. He got with Nissan directly, and they had him go to a local shop instead of the dealership to get it fixed. They covered it, along with tires, but it didn’t speak well of them that Nissan didn’t have the dealership fix the issue, they had a local one man shop take care of it.

He hasn’t had any major issues, just several small ones.

One thing that’s REALLY stupid about it: The lever to recline the seat isn’t flush with the seat. It sticks out at an angle slightly. Everyone who gets out catches their ass on it. I thought I broke the damned thing the first time I rode with him.

There aren’t many aftermarket mods for it either. He’d love some Spyder headlights or tail lights, but they aren’t available. That’s not Nissan’s fault. Companies just aren’t in a hurry to make products for what is at best the fifth best selling truck on the market.
