I have been having problems with my power steering. It started off gradually getting stiff over the course of a couple weeks. After about two weeks my front brake pads went out (not sure if related or just a coincidence) After replacing my brake pads, I went to the dealership for a Diagnostic. They suggested I replace the Power steering pump, pressure sensor and gave me a $1600 quote. I replaced the pump and the sensor my self and still no luck. HOWEVER after getting the power steering flushed, my steering was smooth. BUT only for a few hours and then it started stiffening up. Any suggestions????

Hmmmm, sounds like your losing fluid somewhere, have you checked inside the power steering rack boots?

Levels seem fine but no I haven't checked. I haven't seen any leaks dripping on to the ground.

Is it possible you replaced is with another bad pump? I wouldn’t think so but just curious

It's possible you got a defective part but I would try and bleed the system and also check the tie rod ends for grins.

A little of this and a little of that.
On one of my older cars that I sold I had to have the fuel pump replaced 3 times before one worked right. It was frustrating for sure.

I just replaced the steering pump, rack and lines. You may need to look at the rack.

On your steering shaft, just above the steering rack, you will find a universal joint. Soak it with penetrant like PB Blaster, Moov-it, and see if your symtoms disappear. If they do, replace the lower shaft assembly.
