A little of this and a little of that. Its pretty run of the mill.
I can’t make this run but you should roll for a day. Alex is a good spotter.

I’ve heard (not sure it’s true) that the forest service moves the boulders around at Gate Keeper sometimes in order to keep it interesting. I eyeballed it last time and would have tried it if I had sliders. The bigger tires make a huge difference there. We were on 37s which made me think we could do it, but there was one boulder I couldn’t get around without driver side body damage since we lacked sliders.

I was up there last Friday(4/4)and it was muddy after the midweek snowstorm. I've conquered the gatekeeper a few times before but not this time. It seemed tougher this time which leads me to believe that Kevin is right about the FS moving boulders around. 33s +1 locker +mud = :( this time. As a consolation we ran Larga and Holcomb Creek. I've studied the gatekeeper many times and I even drove a small yota on 40s over it once. Now that I have 37s, I think I could probably do it, but the damage to my truck isn't worth it. But I would love to see a tundra on 40s tackle it. You have a locker now?? ARB? Did you get gears?

Yeah I spoke with a ranger two years ago and they said they regularly bring tractors up there are arrange the gatekeeper so that you need 40s and short wheelbase. there was a regular cab full size chevy that day on 40s who made it, but just barely.

I won't be taking mine thru there either - mostly because it will be in Nevada instead of Big Bear and probably on Jack Stands haha

I'll probably be prepping the truck that weekend because we have a big 1.5-week trip to Utah/Colorado 2 weekends after that.

I heard the same, too, which is great. I hate how some trails get easier or the gatekeepers becoming easier due to people moving around all the rocks without FS permission.

Yea, I got a rear ARB air locker and regeared to Nitro 4.88s all around. The new gears plus the supercharger make the 40s feel "stock" again, which is good enough for me considering how heavy my truck is with all the mods.

How much you weigh? I weighed The Truck last fall before I redid the rear suspension and I was completely surprised. I knew I was heavy, but I didn't know I was a pig. This is with full gear, fluids, and firewood weight mocked up:

Cat Scale. They're all over the place, truckers use them. Cost $11

I bet everyone would be surprised what their truck weighs. Mine was 6800 with just the fridge, 1 spare and 2 pass. That didn't incude any of my camping gear

haha! I know. and thats after I shed a lot of gear trying to cut weight. I switched RTT and dropped some gear, probably saved me 300 lbs.

But also, that weight is fully loaded for two weeks on the trail. Full tank, 35 gallons water and extra fuel, firewood, driver, etc. Most trips I don't need that much fluids

I got my hood latch and sheet metal fixed and I'm swapping the radiator this weekend. I might camp up there next weekend and do some MTB

I'm looking forward to this trip!

Do you have a build thread here, or just on TT?
I see you update that build thread, but that site is annoying, and I've only been there once. Today. To look at your thread. Couldn't do it.

lol I'm actually writing a build thread for this site. Why is tundra talk annoying? It's just another forum. I started there because it had the largest crowd. Now its dead so I've moved over here for the most part.

it's irritating because of the ads and the stupid ass tapatalk on mobile, or the lovely 'enhanced mobile view'. even if you turn those off, the regular view on mobile sucks. but taptalk can really eat a dick.
