@zcarpenter92 IMO they are all garbage anymore honestly here in the usa.. With the current EPA on diesel ass and the compression ratio is dropping. That's the only way they can keep within EPA guidelines. Older diesels are ok. Cummins 5.9 wasn't a bad engine. But navistars 7.3 still is the engine to beat on small truck class today.

Unfortunately driving class 8 trucks for a living ( I might be retired now) I see what's good and what's junk when it comes to heavy duty diesel.

Honestly if Toyota can't use hino engine use the navistar engine... It's more proven small truck market than anyone and it's reliable and durable.

Agree with u 100%. Toyota Diesel engine in a Toyota truck nothing else.
IMO, if i buy a Toyota truck I want the engine to be made by Toyota not by someone else. Engine is the heart of a truck.
If the Toyota Tundra had a cummins in it, I would be driving a Cummins not a Toyota. So no thank you.

Rumor has it that 2017 will be the year Toyota steps in two diesel markets. Tundra will have the 5.0/Cummins and the Tacoma will have Toyotas 4d same as the hilux engine over seas.

If this rumor is true this is a big big game changer in the Toyota powerplant line up for 2017 notice I didn't say powerplants do to the Cummins engine in the tundra. But a step in the right way for the 4d diesel to hit USA soil.

I'm not holding my breath on 4d but the Cummins yes..

With Nissan on the market Toyota has no choice but to enter the market for that share.

As for the nissan they did I say a OK job. Tho I question a front impact and what they call off side impact drivers side and see how much engine goes into the cab.

Ditto. That's the problem. But we did send men to the moon and land a spacecraft on an asteroid moving 80K mph. You would think that there could be some kind of work around.

Cafe is more of the problem than EPA right now. EPA all you have to do is add def (diesel exhaust fluid) and you can butter up to the EPA.. Dodge I know has def in there trucks I think GM/Isuzu does too 3500 I think? . Ford I don't think so never seen one yet. .. Nissan nope they went the cheap way used cummins.

New Titan has this: [IMG] Like new semi's have. Better than carrying around a jug of def i guess. Our local Flying J pumps let you fill up both at the same time.

When you run out of def the ecm shuts down the engine just like running out of fuel.

Edit def is not cheap and def is bad on the environment no matter what they say. I have read to much on it.

If you think your cats are a problem try the def filter... Good luck people it's a pain the the F@#$ing ass to change.

Def is like 1.69 for bulk and truck stops but still add that plus diesel it's going to get expensive just to drive around in a diesel?

Piss on it... I will buy a 2007 thru 2014 tundra.. Send it to dieseltoyz have them put in the 1fv. V8 diesel no def no EPA bullshit and guess what? It's a Toyota diesel. Sad part it will beat the new Cummins engine all day long all night long. . Spend about the same money as if I bought a 2017 with a whimpy Cummins.
