About 3 months ago, our 2017 tundra caught fire. It’s a mess. Has anyone heard of these trucks catching fire or have any information that could help us?

    WOW! hope everyone is ok.

I have never heard of this at all. What were the circumstances around the fire/what did the investigator say was the cause of the fire?

The vehicle hadn’t been driven in 6 days.
The investigator didn’t do a good job of looking at the evidence. Said there was gas in the back seat of the tundra. However they loaded and unloaded it 4 tones before investigating and it had atleast 3/4 tank of gas.

I have no words . . . seems totally incompetent to me. There must be a real cause that has nothing to do with the truck, but everything to do with an external factor like a critter getting in a chewing on the wrong wire. Personally, I have lost sensors on other vehicles when rabbits got in and chewed through the wires. That's always fun to diagnose, by the way.

Wow, sorry to hear this. Glad nobody was hurt.

Every make and model can have an electrical fault. I have only heard of a couple other Tundras that went up in flames. Don’t know the details though.

Looking at it it seems that it started in the front of the truck. The rear tires are still intact. Did it catch fire just parked there or were you driving it and had to bail out? Were you carrying fuel in the backseat? I don’t see why you would’ve done that. Also did the fuel cell/tank burn up too? I want to say if it wasn’t being driven at the time it’s definitely an electrical short or someone fucking fire bombed your truck.

@L3ah, have you guys done any modifications to the truck at all? It's pretty rare to hear about a Tundra catching fire, especially one that hasn't been modified in any way. Has it already been ruled out that this might've been intentional by someone for whatever reason?

Can't see that even if he was carrying fuel in backseat ( I believe he stated it was the smell), that would have been the start. Can definitely tell it was started in front of the vehicle, most likely engine compartment. If you look on the back doors, the paint hadn't even completely burned off the lower door skin. But the front around the engine compartment was hot enough to melt the rims
