Bought a silly, stupid truck . . . .

Yeah, just upgraded my truck game by a factor of at least 10.

Previous truck was my dad's old one. He gave it to me, 2004 Tacoma, reg cab, 2wd, 2.4 4 cylinder, 5 speed. He bought it new, $11,600 in 2004. I inherited it in 2015, dad felt guilty about paying 4 times as much for sister's college as mine, so I got a really damn nice cheapy truck in 2015 with about 170k on it for free. I was planning to drive that damn truck into the ground. It was always garage kept, maintenance performed on time, he washed that thing about every other week, waxed it, kept it damn nice.

Anyways, about a month ago, I lost control on the interstate while it was raining. There was a wreck on the right side of the road, traffic checked up real quick on me, some stupid bitch in a black Accord, Camry, Sonota type of car cut right in front of me while I was slowing down, doing 40-50mph, they were doing 20mph, I was on the brake, shifted from 4th to 3rd while on the brake and changing lanes, the truck slid out from under me and into that inside wall head on hard at 30-40mph. That 2004 Tacoma was a total loss, I was damn lucky that nobody hit me while I was spinning out.

Moral of the story is to always keep good tires on your vehicle. I was thinking for that past week or so that I needed new tires on that Tacoma, even though they weren't down to the wear bars, they were old Goodyears(Goodyear makes shit tires IMO), I needed new tires but was kind of like lets wear these out of the next couple thousand miles until they get down to the wear bars. Just check them at every fill up.

After totaling out that 2004 Tacoma due to bad tires, I received $5900 from Geico, minus my $500 deductible. Kind of insane resale on that old Tacoma, 14 years, 190,000 miles, bought for $11,600 new, settled on $5900 payout for it being a total loss.

Anyways, after that fiasco, and considering I'm selling my really nice 1992 Lexus SC300 with 105k miles(it had been a daily driver from 2012 to 2016), I decided to get down to one vehicle.

I really wanted a newer Tacoma crew cab(2005-2015) but those things are stupid expensive used. Found out I could buy a big V8 Tundra for the same price. I looked at a 2014 or 2015 Tacoma extra cab, Pre-Runner, v6, automatic, 33k miles for $24,900. That thing was a piece of crap at the north of town Toyota dealer, had a repainted front fender, scratches all down the sides of the bed/body.

The Tundra is really more truck than what I need. Hell it sticks out a bit from the carport that I park it under. But a 2011 Tundra, double cab, 4.6 V8, 4wd, $20,000 is what I talked them down to, stupid clean condition, I mean really stupid clean, no accidents, 56,000 miles, maybe one door ding on the whole truck, the condition, miles, and price is what sold me on this truck.

After a day of driving this truck for about 150 miles, I'm in love. Yes its stupid big, but that's why I love it. I'm sure I will get used to the size. I've had a 1991 Cadillac Brougham D'elgance, and a 1995 Cadillac Fleetwood, those cars were almost as long as this damn truck, after about a week of driving them I got the hang of the huge size.

Yeah, I've been really beating myself up about that wreck with the Tacoma. Just thinking about if I had put new tires on it the week before that wreck. I had thought the tires were a bit "suspect" for the previous few weeks leading up to that wreck, even though they still had some tread on them.

All that being said, my new 2011 Tundra is 100x times the truck. Love the big ass truck, it has a certain presence, a force, a smoothness, stability, it just glides down the road unlike that little ass Tacoma.

It's insane how Toyota holds there value. You would've been driving that 4cyl Taco for years. My buddy had a old Taco with the SR22 engine, pretty much indestructible. Congrats on your Tundra, the 4.6 V-8 is sneaky fast. Had one for a rental and thought I had the 5.7 until a member on here pointed it out. Welcome from Obx.

My first Tacoma was a 2004 as well. I had the 3.4 V6 with the 5 speed manual. She was a good truck, even if she was under-powered and got almost the same gas mileage as a Tundra with a 5.7. Welcome to Tundra ownership!
