So I installed my new amp from James and was attempting to do the amp input sensitivity test and unhooked all dash speakers and then unhooked all outputs from amp after verifying they worked. I insert the sine wave CD and I am hearing a tone come out of the rear tweeters. I didn't think these were running off the stock HU, am I incorrect? Any ideas on what this could be? Paging @Danimal86

OK was able to get a hold of James and he got my frequencies set for me and told me where my gain should be. Also he confirmed that the HU runs the rear and front tweeters. Of note the hiss is horrible and I will be getting a new HU ASAP to solve this issue and the overall muddy sound...

So I realized later that I had not switched the input voltage from low to high on the amp as required for using speaker level inputs. No hiss after switching that.

Shouldn't be any hiss. Glad you got it figured out!

Its strange how toyota decided to power some of the speakers off the HU and others through the POS amp.

I used one of the stock amp rack front bolts, sanded down the paint, then moved the other funky looking ground from closer to the console over, then combined it with the amp ground wire to that bolt. I made sure that the amp wire was down with that other ground on top of it. Where that other ground was, it protruded up and would allow my amp mount "board" from tech12volt to lay flat so I could screw it down. I will have pictures coming soon, did a bunch of stuff this weekend.

Well that did get rid of the hiss with the stock speakers but then I replaced the front doors this weekend and now there is a faint hiss with volume down to 1-2 before the music kicks in... I am already saying F-it and going to get a new HU and solve that problem and the crappy muddy bass coming out of the subs. As it stands right now I have to keep the bass knob turned down to nearly nothing because they sound so bad...

Thats a good setup. Without a sound processor you are going to be fighting sound quality issues. Good call and putting your money into a new head unit.

Could you use one of the bolts for that access panel to the window?

I was looking at that one too. Maybe James can cut you a good deal on one (and if he does, pm me!).

    Would this work?

Not sure what size bolt would go in there though. Could I use the bolt in the bottom left of the pic?

I don't see any reason not. Use some of the bolts laying around from taking it apart. It has to be one of the common ones from the truck; 14mm, 11, 10, 8 I know I've had to remove at least those sizes

And when I say use another bolt I just mean for sizing the hole then head to the hardware store if you don't have one lying around
