    Hey guys,

I currently have 255 70R 18 tires on my truck with 9/11 tread left (Perelli’s) and was wondering is this the stock size? Discount Tire thought they come stock with 275 70R 18.

I was also seeing how big of a tire I could fit on my stock Tundra with no leveling kit and they said a 285 70R 18 with no rubbing.

Is this the case for both questions?

A little of this and a little of that.
Question 1, yes they do come with 275 70 18’s
Question 2, not sure. But if they say so it’ll probably fit

Albinator, 2008 stock tire size is P- 275/65/18. You can move up to 275/70/18's with no modding. Compare tire sizes here

Noticed on the inside of my door it shows 255 70 18. I would have to mod at 285 70 18?

Yay or nay on a leveling kit messing up the trucks geometry and premature wear and tear?

If done right, a leveling kit wont give you any premature wear.

I say level it and throw some 295/70/18. Great tire size for the Tundra.

I ran a leveling kit up front for 2+ yrs , because I had a itchy ass. I should have just waited until I could afford what I wanted to do. I would level with some Bilstein 5100's 360. Depends on what your doing with your Tundra . On that 285/70/18 you are 1.6" taller and 1.2" wider which could possibly rub on that control arm. I had no issues with my spacers, but my Tundra is a Street Princess

    These? http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/07-10-toyota-tundra-bilstein-5100-adjustable-ride-height-kit.html

I’m just reading how leveling can affect towing, driving, etc.

Do you use your stock springs or would I need to get new ones? They won’t damage joints, etc?

With the 5100's you would use your factory spring's. I went with the 6112's which is a full coilover. No they won't damage joints . If you lift it over 3" then a differential drop is recommended to adjust with the change in the geometry .

Tag, Im curious also, i have stock and want to go to a bigger tire size, 275/70/18, but if i can go 285/70/18 without any mod i would definitely get that.

Here ya go. Guy's name is Darren Schmidt. I got mine assembled . You have a couple of options as far as height . I am running mine @ top setting of 2.5". There's a lot of guy's running @ the 1.9 " mid setting.

Does the mid setting level it out? I saw this too in a video that you can only go so high depending on your model. He had the 05-06 model it looked like so I wonder if this stands true to my 08 4x4 Crew

I have an 08 DC, and my set- up is 6112's up front and 5100's in the rear with a 1" tapered block in the rear. This allowed me to move up to a 295/70/18 tire. I have a small rake left in the overall stance . If you go with 1.9 setting and leave rear stock you will be pretty close to level. Just remember if you load stuff in your truck with it level you will deal with some sag . That's why I chose to leave a little rake. If you do decide on 6112's, I would swap out rear with the 5100's or if you plan on going off-road some you could upgrade to the 5160's. You gave a good amount of options . I looked @ your Tundra and it looks like it needs some de-chroming haha. Black it out

As mentioned above , you can go up to 275/70/18, but a 285 will be iffy . Measure the inside of your front tire and see what you have in clearance to your control arm . If you have around an 1" chances are your gonna rub, unless of course you go with some wheel spacers.

So you’re just going to get that tire without leveling your truck (if that’s what you mean about no mods)?

Yeah I may head that direction due to the cost of leveling and new tires but we’ll see. I hope the bigger tire size makes a difference in looks compared to our 255’s

I wouldn't go 285/70/18 on a stock tundra. I ran my 275/70/18 stock for a little bit and I think the 285's would definitely have rubbed.

That said, they will make a huge difference in looks!! Here are a few pictures of when I had 255/70/18 and then went to 275/70/18, all before leveling.

Looks like the top pic is the 255 and the other two are the 275? That look does makes a difference! Have you noticed any mpg loss due to the bigger size?

Correct, top pic is 255's and bottom 2 are 275's. I did notice about a 1-1.5 mpg drop with mine. You are going up an 1" in tire diameter, but also increasing the weight too. Those stock 255's are like 40 lbs and the 275/70's are all 10 ply, load E tires, which are usually 50+.

I’ll have to think it over. My Tundra got 15.6 mpg on the highway last fill up so I’m tracking it again from my last full up to see how it goes (and figure why it would be that low when it should be 17-18 I thought?). Would hate to lose more mpg

These trucks are certainly not known for mpg. My truck never got over about 16-16.5 stock. A lot of these trucks I don't think get the "advertised" 18 on the highway. Some do, but I think the general consensus is they don't.

You'll get 18mpg at 55mph, with a tailwind, on flat land, good asphalt. Realistically, that ain't happenin'!! LOL
