Might go from Tacoma to Tundra

I currently have a 2016 Tacoma. I love most things about the truck except for it seats. They are a bit narrow for my liking. My dealer just gave me a 1794 edition Tundra as a loaner. I absolutely loved its comfort, but it really is more truck than I need. I want a truck to put 2 dirt bikes in the bed and pull a small camper places. It will also serve as my commuter vehicle when the weather is too cool for motorcycle riding. As far as usage specs the Tacoma does what I need it to.

A 1794 edition is too expensive for me. I'd be looking at a double cab SR5 model. I'd be loosing most of the bells and whistles my Tacoma has. The most important being the sunroof. I'd have to go aftermarket for that. But I'd also loose the smart key, the dual zone climate control, the GPS, the tri-fold bed cover. All are nice to have but not an absolute necessity. The loaner I had would not fit in my garage without removing my tool bench so garaging it would be tricky.

The loaner reported 14 mpg compared to 18 mpg on my Tacoma, but I suspect it was really getting 12 mpg based on how much gas it took to refill. What is normal around town mpg?

I've been truck shopping for the last 6 months and I keep finding that a midsize meets my needs except that they all have small seats that I don't find comfortable. When I sit in a full size like a Tundra or a Titan it just feels right.

Before the Taco I had an 05 Jeep Wrangler which had wonderful seats but did not ride comfortably.

 

I'm not seeing the Rock Warrior edition on the build and price site.

 

I thought dual climate control was standard. I have a double cab with no "package" except towing and it has dual climate control

 

I've owned 2 Tacomas , and the difference between those and the Tundra, well , waiting wouldn't be an option now... Tundra is so much more truck....

With the 5.7 V8 it would be very hard to not get into the accelerator! That engine makes good sounds! Do you agree that a TJ has better seats than either of these trucks?

 

I only miss my 09 Taco because of the ease of parking compared to my Tundra. That's it. I drove it up to AK (4K miles +). The seats became very uncomfortable after a few hundred miles. My left arm would get numb too. The Taco is a nice truck, well built, especially the new one, but too small for me. By the way, my left arm is still messed up from that trip. Go with the Tundra, you will never regret it.

 

I have to admit , age has something to do with it to. I need a bigger comfort zone now that I'm nearing my feeble years.

I owned a 97 Tacoma and 2010 tundra before I ever saw either site. Still have both, but only trailer the Tacoma now

 

The Wife-Unit complains that the seats in my Tundra are too wide. This is a good thing, otherwise she'd want to drive it all the time. You will definitely appreciate the additional room in the tundra, if not its "parkability".

 

Went from a 2013 Tacoma Limited DC to a 2015 Tundra Limited with TRD Package. Not a moment of regret for me. I just like the feeling of a full size truck. I am not a large person. I felt comfortable with the loss of 2 mpg. Bottom line for the change was to haul our camper, the Taco did it, but the Tundra does it much better.
