Toyota vs Chevy

So my Gpa got a 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500. I tried to tell him get a Tundra but he’s had chevys he’s whole life so he stuck with it oh well. I finally got to drive it around tonight and test it out.
Some takeaways:

-Chevy has always been on the ball as far as tech goes, remote start big touch screen sonar grid lines on reverse camera list goes on
-LED projector lights are clean and nice
-LED fog lights are bad ass I went from 90 degree from driver being let up to 180 degree it was insane. Jealous for sure.
-A lot smaller than my Tundra
-take off not very great
-felt like I didn’t have much low end torque
-drives smooth but it’s expected since it’s a smaller truck sitting on everything stock
-definitely lagged when taking off from a stop but did fine once in the upper 50-60s

In the end it’s a nice truck but...... Toyota wins! My tundra is a lot more roomier, drives bettter for being on 33 inch tires, better take off and acceleration, more power. Much higher off the ground. I just feel more BA in my Tundra though.

Toyota does a great job in accenting the tundra vs Chevy and their Silverado.

Just some notes and thoughts I had today that I thought I should share.

He’ll most likely have to trade that Chevy in on Something new in a few years when it starts spending more time in the shop than under his ass driving down the road. GM ain’t the same company it once was. I call them God-awful Motors now. Regardless...I am biased. I spent two years in a lawsuit with GM over a 2009 lemon they sold me. Sad thing is it was my second one. The 2007 I originally had was a piece of. I traded it in for the 09. What a mistake. Toyota Tundra made me sane again and will never ever ever ever buy another GM product again... I will ride a bicycle before I have to drive one. Or a turtle...LOL!

 

My first car after graduating college was a Chevy Cruze since I would be making 3.5 hr commute every other weekend and man I had so many recalls and check engine light issues (had it for like 5 months) I was so fed up and trade it in for my Tundra and never looked back! 2 brands I’ll never buy GM and Ford, GM due to personal exp and Ford due to me dealing a lot with their warranty and being able to see what really goes on.

 

I've always thought Chevy had terrible interiors and electronics. Had the same layout for trucks/cars for 15 years it seems. I know the new ones are a lot better ( interior and tech ). Also think the new ones are ugly and hate their stupid commercials...

 

Toyota wins??? on what? outdated technology? a front end design that might be the biggest automotive travesty ever committed? lack of features?

you must have test drove the wrong trim level and engine, because the proper 6.2 V8 will spin the tires without even breaking a sweat and smoke any of Toyota's offerings as far as accelerating. the 1500 lacks blind spot monitoring and push button start. But those features are all available in the F150 which kicks the tundras ass and the chevy as far as technology and comfort. go have a look at a King Ranch and check back with us how awesome the Tundra is.

our Tundras are in the stone ages. simple as that. I dont own an F150 because i dont want to fix one or make payments, but you cant take away that they offer the most features, and arguably the best looking. Our vehicles do not hold a candle.

 

Honestly, it's all subjective.... Personally, I prefer the shape (especially the front end) of the Tundra over any of the others. The engine is proven / rock solid and I don't need/want any of the bells and whistles. I work in the technology field and have had my share of all the extra gadgets. One thing I've learned that they are always cool at first, but are soon forgotten and fall back on a core set of basic functionality. However, to each their own....

 

I don’t disagree with you completely..... what the Tundra has over Chevy and Ford is dependability. Let me know how all that power, comfort, and technology feels when your driving a rental car while it’s in the shop...

You then also need to look at the price tags associated with Chevy 6.2L V8 trims (which is a sweet engine by the way) and the King Ranch, they are much more expensive than the Tundra. Premium fuel is also required for the 6.2L. Looks are very subjective. Aside from the Raptor, the F-150 stock is meh as well as they are everywhere. I will give you that they offer the most features. May be a reason why they aren't generally very reliable either. Toyota wins on the fact that you mentioned all of those things you said are better but still went with a Tundra.

We can take looks off the table since it's subjective. Boil it down to just features. Every other full size beats the Tundra. I'll counter your premium fuel point and say the 6.2 gets better gas mileage than our junk. Sure Toyota is a little cheaper but a 1794 is within 10% or so of its counterparts. At that price point, a few k isn't going to break the bank.

 

You feel so strongly about the other manufacturers, then why the hell are you even here? I saw you said Toyota is most reliable and that’s the reason you don’t own a Ford. But other than that sounds like you can’t stand your fucking tundra.

I used to have a 2015 Silverado that replaced a 97. I thought it looked really good and had tons of features, great gas mileage, comfortable, etc...
It was a lemon GM bought it back at 7000k miles. That got me into my super reliable tundra.
My work trucks have been varying levels of fords. Had a 11 raptor, liked it but would never buy one. Suspension was only real cool thing about it. Last one was a 14 150 w eco boost. Lots of power and quick, no bueno for dirt though.
Currently sitting in an 18 Silverado. So far seems just like my 15. Transmission shifts weird, it’s a dog off the line. We’ll see how it does.
As far as my personal vehicles I’ll take piece of mind over not being on the side of the road over bells and whistles any day.

I've owned/ driven "comparable" trucks from the top 3.... screw your gadgets and gizmos. If i want them ill put them on myself.... cheaper than what you would charge me for them. I don't need all "upgrades" in technology they have. Over rated imo. Never liked it.

 

I used to drive F-150s (KR and Platinum) and Ram Laramie trucks because I do like the amenities and safety features. When Toyota put some of those in the Tundra with the 2018 model I bought one because I do like the looks of the Tundra and it has way better reliability then Ford. Sure, all the others are more modern vehicles and get a little better fuel economy but I don't regret my choice.

With that said, I am looking forward to the next generation Tundra which should catch up with the Big Three, may cost more but I really don't care about that. If I had to buy a truck right now the new Ram would be a serious contender since they also are available with BSM, adaptive cruise, LED headlights and have a great sound system (with a 12" screen); I also never had many issues with the Rams I owned. I think I am done with Ford though, to many problems, recalls and TSBs.

 

In all fairness you saying you must’ve hit a nerve is kind of making yourself look bad because you were really knocking on the tundra in a tundra forum my friend.

I will agree when I sat in a Silverado and Ford I did love the creature comforts they both had. I will also say I like how the Silverado felt from the drivers seat as I felt myself feeling like the truck wasn’t as huge as what the tundra is. Also think the F150 is a prettier truck than the tundra lol. The LT in a Silverado still had cheaper plastic than even what my tundra has though. From my experience maybe Not what you feel.

At the end of the day if you want all the tech and glamour, buying a tundra is maybe not for you.
If you, for the most part, don’t want to be in and out of the dealer , repair shop, etc...then that’s why we all feel so strongly about the tundra.

 

Had a 98 S-10 for ten years, that thing served me VERY well.. I give credit where it's due and as far as GM (my previous experiences with them - granted it was a 98 and had none of the new bells and whistles as the newer ones do) I like the GM's, but before I bought my tundra, I did my research and decided reliability was way more important to me than MPG/tech.

 

I drive an 06 Double cab Tundra. I'd take that old Toyota over ANY new Ford, Chevy or Dodge ANY day of the week. Its reliable, holds resale value and is tough. I dont need gadgets and gizmos. More shit to break.

 

My dad has a Chevy/GMC 4x4 long bed that i LOVE....but it's from three '70s. I don't care for the new ones AT ALL.

Personally I love my basic bitch of a truck. I know I can get more creature comfort‘s but I don’t want them. I got an awesome truck for under $40,000. Matter fact it was 37,000 and I just checked bluebook and it has only depreciated $3000 in the last three years. I loath the day that they don’t offer a more basic version of a truck. I don’t like all the nannies they put on things. And I don’t want electric seats and or auto anything LOL

 

B737, you called the Tundra “junk”.
I’m reading this trying to figure out how idiotic a person has to be to drop their hard earned cash on something he knowingly considers “junk”.

 

I almost bought a GM but the 6.2 is only offered in LTZ trim. Also with LTZ you get a bunch of chrome crap that I did not want. No way was I buying a GM with the 5.3 AFM. As Ford goes all the tech is great if you can keep it working. King Ranch ought to be steps above Toyota for the price. I don't need the stuff that comes with the upper trim levels. I am more interested in (let me say) physical capabilities. Too many truck buyers are going for all the frills and the average price of pickups is rising fast because of it. I think part of it is the fact that you have a bunch of former car owners that are now in the market for a pickup.

 

but it's our junk, and we like them, for the most part. that's what matters. they aren't perfect. just trying to bring some reality to the toyota love fest. that's all

 

You know what the “AFM” stands for on the 5.3 engine???

“All F%$*ed-up Motor”... I had one and engine top end had to be rebuilt at 22k miles because of a bent push rod.

Single handily that has to be the worst engine ever made.

Ironically, the muel mileage wasn’t that great.

 

I don’t see it as “reality”. My reality is that the Tundra is FAR from junk. In fact I consider something to be “junk” when it fails, let’s me down and spends it time in the shop to often. That B is “junk”.
With that said you can’t argue that reliability is where the Tundra excels which would then point to the the BiG 3 being more in line with your “junk” comment.
Now if you want to talk about tech, then yes, the Tundra lags in that regard. But, I’ll bet my left nut very few if any Tundra owners on here bought the Tundra because they wanted all the Tech.
If it’s the tech that makes you think the way you do then a wise move would be to trade out the Tundra, buy the GM, head over to that forum and you can get on the thread discussing why the ass jiggler that alerts you when you veer out of your lane isn’t working anymore...

 

I'm sorry....i don't consider my truck junk. And i LOVE my truck.
