so after purchasing this used 2016 tundra i noticed that the antenna was missing. i scoured the site and there was big threads on the antenna being too large and always breaking off. i decided to fix it but need your thoughts. below is the picture of the assembly after i removed the rubber base. it looks to me like it snapped and i will need a reverse stripped bolt bit to remove unless you alll tell me otherwise. or i will need to buy a whole new antennae assembly. im not too sure what i am looking at.

in addition, the radio is the premium which has the xm so i am assuming this is the xm antenna. i dont listen to radio much and usually use my usb stick so is it worth it to even fix the antenna issue? it does get fm radio here and there on the higher signal stations. does the xm antennae override the regular antenna? sorry for all the questions ... still learning.

    thank you all in advance

    cheers

    tin

the one on the fender is the am/fm antenna. to get at it, you will need to remove the inner fender well splash shield. it doesn't appear that there is any other way to get to it and i've been looking at it for a few days.

the xm antenna is on your roof.

The XM antenna is designed specifically to pick up certain satellite frequencies. It does not over ride the AM/FM antenna which is designed to pick up lower radio frequencies in the Amplitude/Frequency Modulation realm. If you don't listen to AM and only listen to a little FM then you don't need to fix. The assembly would most likely need to be replaced to regain decent AM/FM reception.

    thanks smslavin

@matluth ... so basically the way the antenna broke would require the whole assembly replaced, correct? thank god its inexpensive on ebay ... like 27 bucks thanks again for your help.

I've never had the assembly apart. I'm not sure if the brass colored fitting where the antenna snapped off is replaceable. $27 for a replacement is not bad. The inner fender liner has plastic grommets that usually break when you remove them. It's best to go to the dealer and get replacements ahead of time. Fairly cheap and they snap right in.
