So as the title states I'm looking to buy my first Toyota Tundra in July. Currently I have a 2003 4Runner that has lasted me forever so now that it's time for a truck there is only one brand that makes sense to me. I have already looked at TrueCar.com to get some ideas as to pricing in the exact model I want. I really want a 2018 Crewmax Limited 4x4 Off Road in Magnetic Gray Metallic. I've seen a few online at local dealers around upstate SC but I've noticed most either have the Limited Premium package, or the Off Road, I've only seen one online that had both packages. Am I missing anything other than blind spot monitoring and RSC if I don't get the Limited Premium? I know I'd also not have the JBL system but I'm wondering since I want to install an aftermarket headunit (mostly for CarPlay) with a DataLink if it is easier to not buy with the equipped JBL. I'm expecting that the 2019 model may include Entune 3 with CarPlay but I can't really wait for that. I asked one dealer if there is any incentive to purchase all cash up front but they told me there are more incentives to finance with Toyota and pay it off in 6 months to avoid penalty. Any ideas or thoughts that may be helpful? Thanks.

Welcome from CO. You’d be missing leather seats, more chrome, color matched rear bumper, and a crap JBL system.

Weird, the one I saw online that was Limited 4x4 Off Road (without Limited Premium) had leather with heated seats. Forgot about the color matched rear bumper, not a deal breaker but would be nice to have.

I’m not sure what a limited premium edition is. Some dealers will add Katskinz to the TRD or SR5 models.

Dealers seem to describe trucks any way they want. I recommend you get on the Toyota build website (like you'd do to order a truck). It described what comes in each "package".

Like, SR5's have most of the options I wanted including, I think I remember, that colour-matched rear bumper, and the 38 gallon gas tank.

The TRD package gives you a bit of an upgrade in suspension, nice wheels (but still very "chrome" and black), and the twin bucket front seats with a big console (kitchen sink?) between them. If you're gonna upgrade wheels, tires, suspension, may not be worth it to you....

Once you've worked your way through the options (and the MSRP for each) I recommend paying for the Fighting Chance consumer reports to see how low you can offer and be taken seriously (much lower than MSRP); do an internet search to find this, about $50 to buy the report.

I think most credit unions offer the market value pricing assessments too. And of course, TrueCar has that as well.

Welcome from Ca. I have a limited and am under the impression there's just 1 form of limited. Perhaps you can get a limited w/o the TRD package which is just different wheels, bed stickers and shocks as I recall.

Yeah there is just one Limited model, just different packages from what I'm seeing. The Off Road is definitely what I want, and I don't think I'll need the Limited Premium Package (JBL, blind spot, RTC, etc)

Mine is the TRD off-road. I've upgraded the shocks, removed the stickers immediately, and changed wheels. So, nothing really left of that package. I've also switched bumpers so no more BSM or parking sensors. All I've got left is a sunroof, leather and a JBL stereo that makes upgrading more difficult and expensive.

So really if I want to upgrade the head unit I should stay away from the JBL when I buy?

I have Limited which includes their JBL unit. The speakers are garbage with these trucks.

Correct. The JBL and Premium or Plus Entune is not worth the extra money, especially if you plan on upgrading anyway.
    Good luck with the search!

Thanks. I hate Entune so much! My wife's 16 Sienna has it and it disconnects frequently when playing music from Bluetooth. Of course when I take it to the dealer they can't find any issues or software updates.

Visit the Taco Tunes web site. Recently they had upgrade packages for our trucks, non JBL sale price $500, JBL $1500.

Agreed. We have a Tundra, Prius and Camry, all 3 with the Premium Entune. Every time I say I will not pay extra for that again, but then the vehicle that we want for other reasons happen to come with it. I will never pick it as an option if I have the choice.
Hopefully the next version, Entune 3 with CarPlay is an improvement.
