    Hey!
I bought my 14 Tacoma new and like it a lot but I recently bought a tractor and I’d like to be able to tow it easier. It and trailer weighs about 6500.
From what I’ve read from a quick internet search I need the 5.7 to get the higher tow rating. Right?
I’m not a tall guy so I hope the Tundra seats aren’t uncomfortable. Thats one reason I’ve always liked Tacomas.
If I do switch I’ll try to sell my Tacoma privately then buy a used Tundra. I dont want another new truck payment.
I definitely want 4 door, 4wd, and towing capability. Anything else you recommend?
    Thanks!

    Welcome from Washington!
5.7 = higher tow rating. With the single cab and double cab, the tow rating is 10.1k lbs and it's 9.4k lbs on the CrewMax. The best bang for your buck trim level is the limited. It has all the awesome tech features without the (in my and many other's opinions) unnecessary features like ventilated seats and folding mirrors. Get a white one :)

You can tow that load with the smaller v8 but there's really no disadvantage to getting the 5.7, gas mileage difference is negligible, and not that much worse than your tacoma.
I am 5'9" and the tundra is very comfortable, better than my 08 tacoma for sure.

I looked it up, the rating on the 4.6L is 6,800lbs. So you can tow the tractor but it's only 300lbs from capacity so I don't know if I'd take that risk. You can also only get the 4.6L in the SR or SR5 doublecab or singlecab.

I think the platinum is a better deal than the limited. The leather is much better quality making the seats more comfortable, my buddy has a limited and my seats are noticeably more comfy. The vented seats aren't useless to me and are nice when you jump in a hot truck. Not to mention the color matched grill and bumper. It's not cheap to dechrome. The interior of the platinum doesn't have the cheap looking, out if place wood grain pieces, but that's all just personal preference I suppose. I use my power fold mirrors all the time and the auto seat and mirrors are a nice feature. If I didn't get a platinum I'd prob just get an sr5 and add katskin leather.

The tow rating of the 4.6 is about the same as my Tacoma so I wouldnt be gaining anything there.
What year did they start putting the back up camera/touch screen in the Tundras?

$7000 starting price difference. Also, my 2018 doesn't have woodgrain; it has aluminum trim. My leather seats are super comfy imo, guess I better not jump in a Platinum. Don't want to have another thing I wish I did differently

Welcome. You'd definitely want a stronger engine to pull that much. Also, coming from a Tacoma, you'd probably be just fine going with the double cab as it has just as much or more back seat space if you wanted the extra bed space. I also don't think the Tundra seats would be uncomfortable for you just because you're small—in fact I think you'll love the extra room in the Tundra's cab. I'm kind of a big dude (6'4", 250) and couldn't believe how cramped the new Tacoma felt compared to the Tundra. Good luck with your decision!

I think They first put a backup camera in the Tundras in 2010. (Platinum model) Not sure if was touchscreen then, but it was for sure touch screen and standard equipment 2014 and on (3rd gen)

Same for the Tacomas. I can do without some features but I really like a touchscreen. Although I’ve seen some aftermarket ones that were pretty sweet.

Thanks for the double cab info. It probably would be plenty for me.

That's good they ditched the wood on the 18s, I was not a fan at all. The seats may be improved as well. My 15 platinum seats are way nicer than my buddies 16 limited.
That's crazy there's a 7k price difference. I got my truck 1-2 year used, so a 15 bought in November of 16. For 40k but it was 51k when new, I think he paid 46k for his limited a few months before I got mine, but his was brand new and he likes chrome haha

I guess it depends with the trim of the crewmax, my SR5 CM 5.7L is at 9800lbs with tow package and no large fuel tank.

Personally I’d say go for the 5.7. It’ll tow more and as others said the mileage is about the same as the 4.6.

Plus the 38 gallon tank because you will be getting 9-10 mpg towing your tractor

A SR5 with the 38 gallon tank would be nice if you were towing long distances. If you want leather, you can always put it in aftermarket. Oh, and watch out for these guys on the forum, they like to help you spend your money...:spending:

Welcome from CO! Go with the 5.7L and Double Cab. You will enjoy the longer bed unless you just haul kids around and need the cab space of a Crew Max.

I went from a 2006 Tacoma to a 2016 Tundra two years ago and it was a great move. In town MPG is worse, but highway MPG is similar. Granted mine is on 34" tires with a lift which doesn't help.

The 5.7 is the way to go as there is really no down side to the 5.7 other then initial cost. The only things I've heard to look out for on the 5.7 is the cam tower leak and the air injection system (I think that is what it is called).

I highly recommend getting a 2016+ for the 38 gallon tank. It is really nice to go 400 to 600 miles between filling up. If you don't need the crew max, then the double cab is a great option and should be found a little cheaper. Other than that, most other accessories you would want are available in the aftermarket.
