7" bds gone due to issues and switched out the kit to Readylift 6" and up to 7"
Hi - I'm new to this group and i'm sure people have already discussed about having outside wear issue on their bds lift kit but would like some feedback.

Currently running 7 inch bds with 20x9 -12mm rbp wheels on 35x12.5r20 nitto ridge tires.

I had the lift kit installed last year and it's been great except for the outside wear. I've driven like a granny and still notice outside wearing faster and I cannot seem to solve this issue. I've heard from a lot of people that it's the spindle/knuckle that has bad angle but i'm wondering if anyone has been able to resolve this without having to install aftermarket uca or other aftermarket parts. below are some pics as well as my alignment spec. FYI - I think the caster should be higher on the right side than left correct? also I might change the camber to -.1 or -.2 to see if this will solve the issue. on the 3rd pic I see that about half an inch of the tread is not in contact with the ground on the inside. 30784468_10104400465099617_1903425021_n_30e09df871c1954d9c580fa4d04dc4ee17e9d666.jpg

I had the BDS kit with the coils set at 8” for about a year. I never had any issues with tire wear like that. And I’m no alignment expert, but your numbers look very acceptable.

thanks for you reply. I just got my 4th alignment done. apparently some people have good luck and others have bad luck. every tundra truck is different and maybe the bds kit does not fit my vehicle. this is the new spec as of today. set the camber on the negative side. i'm hopeing that this will fix the problem and it was just an alignment issue. if not apparently spindle is the cause according to lift shop near my house and a lot of people have issues with bds kit wearing outside tire. if this is the case I will be asking for refund and cost of the tire. I've contacted bds but not getting any response which pisses me off.

Wow, 4 alignments? Have you tried different shops? I only take mine to custom truck locations. But good idea on the negative camber to try and counter it, let me know if that fixes it. And that’s strange, I can usually get ahold of bds without much issue.

I don’t have a alignment sheet unfortunately, but here’s a pic of my BFG KM2’s after about 10k on them. EBE05E52-DB63-4176-A40D-C6A955B7DC4B.jpg

I was expecting tire wear like yours. just the tad bit of wear on the outer edge but that's normal. this sucks real bad.

That picture is almost a year old, the funny thing is; when I took it for a alignment about a month ago (at a different shop from the original), they told me my alignment was way out of whack. But I never noticed any abnormal wear. Is your lift the spacer or the fox shocks?

prob spacer. I kept the stock shocks. you think they could cause it? also my truck is still somewhat new.

Yeah it’s a spacer. I can’t imagine it having anything to do with alignment. It just doesn’t make any sense though, your alignment numbers look fine. I can only read the caster, camber, and toe. I don’t know what the others represents. But I’d try a custom truck shop.

I had a similar issue on my old set of tires, with "correct" looking alignment specs. With larger side lug voids and aggressive driving, more outer tire wear will happen but you already knew this. I'm trying out a more negative camber this time to see if it'll combat this issue.

@TundraDude772 I called another branch located in other area. I asked them what's the frequency of doing tire rotation and they have said the exact thing as other tire shops that i been to do it at 3k to 5k miles. The shop i got the lift kit from said rotate 1500 to 2500 which is absurd. So, another branch told me to bring the truck back so they can inspect it as they are saying 1500-2500 is not right. i dont mind having softer edge on the outer side but if it wear the same as what i'm showing then i'm taking the lift out and putting ReadyLift on it. Also i've already contacted my credit card company about this and they said if the kit is at fault then they'll reimburse me the $$$.

I'm tired of having the issue and currently i'm not enjoying the truck at all.

I dont have a bracket lift, just some king factory replacements c/o around 2.75". I don't necessarily mean driving like a race car, but spirited driving in a taller vehicle will have more roll and put more weight on the outer edges of the tires when turning.

right now my camber is around -.5 on each side, toe is +.11. caster around +6 degrees

I'm running camburg uniball uca's as well -

understood. that is the reason why my casters are lower to compensate for the roll. if all fails i might even have to set the camber between -.2 to -.5 but then again, bds is the only lift kit thats having this issue.

So I talked to a few people about this issue.. my alignments have always been on par with this same BDS 7 inch.. my tire wear is good.. does the backspace of the wheel have anything to do with it???

@Jsena no. more negative offset needs more positive camber. i'm needing more negative camber. whats your offset?

And what do you mean by in par with bds 7inch? last time i asked you dont have the alignment sheet so i cant really know how yours is setup.

Yeah I know how it is, when you just want to enjoy driving but can’t due to issues. I wish I could blame it on the kit, but I just don’t see it being the issue. I would have to say the shop may be to blame. Anyone who says tire rotations should be done 1500-2500 miles is ridiculous. I could understand a little more if it were a M/T, but not with ridge grapplers.

Dropped my truck off at the shop this morning for the 20x12’s and 38’s. Just saw someone test driving it down the road, should be picking it up in a hour or so:)

that's awesome! well another branch manager told me to drop by @ their shop and they'll inspect it thoroughly. Also getting some 2nd opinions from few shops about the kit and see if everything has been done correctly.

there's a local shop near my house and the owner also had bds lift kit installed few years back. he had the same issue as i did and if i'm not mistaken he went through sets of tires. he got the kit installed at a same shop i got my kit installed before he opened up his own shop i believe. Per his word some people have good luck and others dont with this kit. Now he's on BP kit and have zero issues and the guy and RL R&D developer have told me to get rid of the kit if problem persists and go with RL. so far no one has complained about tires wearing unevenly. Only downside i heard about RL is that customer service sucked lol.

Also the shop i used kept pushing to get me to BDS so i trusted them to have it installed based on their reputation and review. Right now, I'm really disappointed. wish i could keep the kit but if not RL it is

PS: the owner who replaced his bds and went to BP is not selling BDS kits anymore. he's had so many complaints from the customers and no longer recommends bds kit.

Definently let them go over every suspension part in the front end. All it takes is 1 bolt or component to be loose or out of place to cause so many issues (including alignment). Hopefully they can come up with something! I know it sucks to pull a old lift kit out and put a new one in. The bds kit requires the cross member to be cut; so if you decide to go RL, clarify with them that it’s compatible with the mods done to fit the bds.

@TundraDude772 I have already confirmed with RL R&D developer. he says only difference is the RL cuts about 30% of the crossmember and leaves the rest. their kit has a bracket that'll bolt onto the crossmember that hasnt been cut to strenghthen the part that has been cut out. BDS cuts the whole crossmember which i believe that RL is a better kit.

BUt he says it'll still fit but i wont be able to bolt anything behind the crossmember.

If I recall correctly, isn’t the RL a 8” kit?

they have true 6 inch lift which i'm going with. bds is not true 7 inch. more like 6.75' or something like that. I dont want to go 8" b/c i might wnat to go 37s on it. If i do 8 then i cant fit in my garage. I can live with 6 and later down the line i'll sell the truck and buy a new one.

I’m going to try and raise mine a little more.. not sure if I get the fox Coilovers, of that will raise me more or what else I can do.. not going to add a spacer!!! Maybe some shackle in the rear will give me a little more lift ??
