what the biggest you can fit without any cutting ? will 295/70/18 works ?
also, would you use/trust the steel rim for your spare or get the matching rim in case you had to use your spare in an off road situation ?

I hoping my 295/70/18 will fit but highly doubtful without some modification.

295 fit under without the tabs cut.
if you cut the tabs you can maneuver the spare away from stuff, would help if you had a extra set of hands.
I say go full size rim if you can.

I'm just gonna cut off the tabs and be done with it.

    I would.
When you get to cranking it up just have someone crank it up while you guide it where you want. Bring it tight, then 1/4 to 1/2 turn after. you'll be fine.
    My bfd fits fine under.

also, I guess you also have to take into account the size of shackles, for example the CB ones are pretty thick.

Yeah CB 295 will be close possible touch. But with the tabs removed u can maneuver away a bit.
Helps with the cb bolt head on inner part of shackle and nuts on outward.

Whatever you do make sure you can use your stock Lugnuts with your spare. If you can’t obviously make sure you have the proper Lugnuts for the spare.

Now you have me thinking the spare is steel on my truck but I have the TRD rims. I was pretty sure steel rims take conical Lugnuts. Maybe the factory spare is different than standard steel wheels?

I think factory spare uses factory lugs, but there is a huge sticker saying TEMP USE ONLY.

That sticker is a bit disconcerting but I've seen the same (11 hole or whatever) design used as wheels. So, I'm unsure as to whether or not you could drive a couple hundred miles off road with it.
I just drilled out the tabs for the spare tire guides the other day. @joonbug said his tire (295 70 18) now sits .25 - .5" higher.IMG_20180306_161021542.jpg

I have a 295 spare with CB +3 shackles and it barely fits. I cut the tabs and had to use a spacer block at the back of the hitch to keep it away from the shackles. So far seems fine.

Does anyone know if a 295/70/18 will not only fit (tabs or no tabs) but stay unscathed enough to put in the tire rotation?

I have a 35/12.50/17 Toyo RT in the stock spare location. I pounded the tabs flat (will probably drill out the tab rivets eventually) and had to replace my CB shackles with some from Total Chaos. CB shackles are really thick and rubbed the tire tread. It fits fine now. I also do a 5 tire rotation.

Spare tire question for any of you guys.. if I have 37’s and 22 inch wheel.. just to get to a store or whatever.. could I put a 35 tire on there with a smaller wheel? Or a 37 tire with smaller wheel.. would any of that work ??

Yeah you should be ok with that. If it's a smaller tire just make sure the spare goes up front so you don't mess with the gearing

I wouldn’t do it in 4 x 4 or if you’ve got a locker. You wouldn’t want tires spinning at different ratios. But otherwise I would say go for it.

This is probably the best bet. I had a 2x ram with a locker. I got a flat out in the desert and my spare was smaller than my running set up. What a hot pain in the ass that was to put the spare on the front then relocate the front to the rear where I had flat tire. Hundred degree weather 2 tire changes 2 lane hwy LOL

I felt like people were looking at me, going WTF is that guy doing changing that tire when the other ones flat? LMAO
