03 tundra stalls after replacing battery terminal

New member in Alabama. I noticed my clock kept resetting overnight for about a week so yesterday I cleaned up the positive battery terminal, and went to work, 23 miles one way, the truck stalled twice at the red light, while cleaning up the terminal I saw that it was deteriorated so today I replaced it with a standard terminal, drove it and it's doing the same thing. I read earlier this could require resetting the Ecu, anyone experience this before? I thought it might be a bad alternator, it's got 270,Xxx miles on it.

Have your battery and alternator checked?

 

The battery is 8 months old, no problem with it running until I removed and cleaned the terminal.

 

Take alternator to get tested?

 

No......it's pouring down rain and don't want to be stranded on the side of the road .

 

Get it tested when u have time, I have a '97 T100 with 305550 miles the dash battery light was coming on, took to autozone get tested both batt and alt were bad but I replaced with alt, no more issues, my batt is a Interstate bout 3 yrs old

Welcome Chris. There may be a bad connection at the other end of the battery cable. The alternator is also suspect. Check all your connections carefully and I like to use No ox or something like this:

 

I'm thinking it's something to do with taking the battery terminal loose. However, I've done that before when cleaning the terminals and replacing the battery and haven't had the problem. I took them off last night and this morning is when it was acting up.

 

The terminals from the truck are stock? Or replaced em?

Yes, they were stock. I noticed the positive one slightly broke / deteriorated and replaced it today, same problem .

We I stall ties under rail, surface and line rail too, so I know nothing of rail car parts

 

I gotcha. Can you drive a spike?

 

Clean your MAF sensor. It can cause stalling at idle especially after a battery disconnect.

MAF sensor?? I disconnected my battery on my 2001 tundra to try and clear an ABS light on the dash and it worked, but now it runs like crap. When it starts, it idles up to 1000 - 1100 (like always) and then instantly starts to idle down to 500. I try and rev it, but it's like the more I give it gas the worse it gets. I just replaced the fuel filter thinking that it was plugged and no luck. Still the same. So, is the MAF sensor in the top of the air cleaner box? And, can I use contact cleaner (LPS Micro-X NU) that is safe on plastics?

 

Correct on the location, not sure on the cleaner since MAF cleaner is cheap enough. I wouldn't risk it considering a new sensor is about $60.

 

A lot of Toyota's will stall at idle after you disconnect battery. This is from a dirty throttle body. Clean your throttle I bet you'll be fixed.
