Gonna change the oil in my 6cyl 2001 tundra it has 154,000 miles on it runs like a champ conventional or synthetic. High mileage or synthetic blend help!

I'd recommend Royal Purple, its a full synthetic. If you don't go with that then I'd suggest staying with a full synthetic like Mobile 1 or something similar.

Synthetic because of miles? I thought synthetic was more of a regional thing like harsh weather and such?

There are several good articles that can explain it better than I can but here's a good summary.

Synthetic oil is not only refined but also distilled, purified and broken down into its basic molecules. This process not only removes more impurities from the crude oil but also enables individual molecules in the oil to be tailored to the demands of modern engines. These customized molecules provide higher levels of protection and performance than conventional oils. But the synthetic base oil is only half the story. The correct blend additives must go into the mix to create the oil.

So the filter should follow suit then correct? Synthetic filter such as K&N or such? Thanks for the replies.

I used to royal purple but Mobile1 is a more solid choice (synthetic) IMO.

I use Valvoline 0w-20 full synthetic in my truck, with a toyota filter, no problems so far!

Curious to know why you prefer Mobile 1? I used to use Mobile 1 and now I only use Royal Purple, they're both full synthetic.

Some Mods :) See build thread for details
If you have 154,000 on the blend then keep it the blend. Not worth trying to make the change now. Shouldn't hurt though, but have heard its bad to go the other way; synthetic back to blend or the old fashion stuff.

I went with Mobil 1 full synthetic with a K&N filter. That oil filter was a lol devil getting out without an oil wrench. Choose the K&N for the wrench off feature. So much easier. Thanks to all for the input.

I would stick with Toyota filters only. I use the trd but have read plenty to only use Toyota filters.

I also run Toyota filters. I have read way to many horror stories of bad filters.
