Regular Cab Short Bed Tundra

Hey guys, I wanted to start a thread for the Regular Cab Tundra owners. The title says RCSB, but post long bed pics too. Please post your pics and why you like the regular cab.

I was specifically looking for the short bed and found my truck about a year ago. It's a 2007 SR5 with the 5.7.

Lets see those Reg Cab pics, all generations!

 

Dang, I'd really like to find an RCSB 4x. Don't think I'd get approval from the front office to buy one but I can dream.

This is the 2007 5.7L 2WD RCSB that I snapped up last September.
I wanted this Tundra for it's powerful drive train in a smaller package.
It is my high mileage daily driver.

 

Dude. I LOVE that truck. That thing is set up to take care of business. One very similar to it was for sale a few months ago in my area, but they hold their value so dang well I couldn't justify buying it at the time lol. If you ever let it go, I'm just south of you.

 

If I didn’t need a 4 door, a RCSB is my first choice. I’ve owned two in my life and it was my favorite configuration. Plus they just look so perfect like a true truck.

Really love the old school look. Plus I wanted max cargo capacity with the shortest wheelbase for remote camping.

I purchased mine in October. Took me a while to find her but lucked out and found a 2013 with 24k miles. It has 29k miles now.
I add a few extras like: Limited 20" wheels, Continental TerrainContact 275/60/20, N-Fab Light Bar, Westin Skid Plate, PIAA 530, VisionX XPR6, Bilstein 5100 front, Hellwig rear sway bar, Focal 6x9 speakers in the doors and an 8" sound ordinance bandpass sub in back.

 

Nice truck! They are very difficult to find, much less with low miles.

 

Ahh, the single man's truck. You can be sure this human has the following characteristics:
- Avid Gun collector
- Abhors "Yuppies"
- Proud of their "working-class" roots
- A one dog man
- Use to be wild back in the day or maybe still is...

Haha, Just-kidding but really every single guy I know drives a single cab truck of some kind and most of the time they possess majority of these characteristics.

 

I'll add that none of the regular cab owners I have met ever had the desire to drive a bus.

 

Used to have a 1993 Toyota "truck" reg cab, loved that little SOB, bought it for $600, sold it for $1000 after I fixed it up a bit, drove it for 4 years and 20,000 miles, bought with 150k, sold with 170k. It was still a huge pile of ugly shit, but it was rust free, had a nice, non-ripped up bench seat, and ran like a swiss watch.

My previous truck was perhaps my all time favorite. 2004 Tacoma, reg cab, 2wd, 5 speed, 2.4 liter 4 cylinder. Did 25mpg all day long. Last year of the small Tacoma. Loved that little truck, it was super handy, easy to park, even a short ass 5'6" man like myself could reach over into the bed. That was my favorite thing about that truck, how easy it was to load/unload stuff from the bed. Put a tool box on it like I had, it acted like a trunk on a car.

Only complaint was the really light ass rear end. It ended up being written off after I spun out and hit the inside wall on the interstate while it was raining hard. Traffic checked up real damn quick because of a wreck, I didn't have enough time to slow down, so I instinctively darted to the left open lane while shifting from 5th to 4th, back end came around, I went into the inside wall head on at 40mph. Moral of the story is to keep good tires on your car/truck, I had been thinking of replacing the worn ass tires for the past week.

That being said, this next time around I really wanted a truck with a decent back seat. I am going from 2 cars to 1, my primary driver, a 1992 Lexus SC300, its been a great driver since I bought it in 2012 with 60k miles, it now has 105k on it, but its going to cost me another 2k in repairs over the next year or so(timing belt, suspension rebuild, repair the rust on the roof due to a bad windshield install).


Sorry to rant there, but I've had two different reg cab trucks, a Lexus with a decent for a 2 door back seat, 2 different 4th gen Camaros with tight ass back seats.

I looked at Tundras with no back seats, a really base work truck type of thing, chalky white paint, pretty beat up, asking 10k. Then a red bucket seat truck with the 4.6 V8, like a 2010, 80k miles, stupid nice, but why in the hell am I paying a good 15k for a 2 seater truck???? They just didn't make any sense at all, when I could buy the double cab version with a decent back seat. The Tundra with 2 seats isn't anything like those handy, tiny, 5 speed, 4 cylinder really cheap trucks of yore

 

I look at it this way, new Tundra with back seats are too big, old Toy trucks were too small... regular cab Tundra are just right.

 

I wanted the regular cab for a tighter turning radius. If the Tundra was my daily driver, to be honest, I would have bought a CrewMax. But I wanted the regular bed but also wanted the smaller truck as opposed to the DoubleCab and I wanted the 5.7 V8 motor. I almost bought a DC 2005 Tundra, which I have owned one before, but the dealer wanted so much for it, I could buy the newer body style for less in the regular cab.

This thing is fun to drive with all that power in the lighter weight truck. The regular cab doesn't hold it's value like the CrewMax either, but that's ok since I plan to keep mine for a very long time.

 

My RCSB is my daily driver and the turning radius is amazingly small, I can make U-turns and get in / out of parking lot spaces with ease. The short wheelbase and lack of weight over the rear wheels does produce a ride that's not a smooth as the larger Tundra, but it's not terrible.

The 5.7L is awesome, and there is more cabin space that I had in my '96 Extra cab T100.

 

Good point, the cabin space is much more than one would think looking at it from the outside. The space behind the seats is enormous.

 

I wouldn't mind having a RCSB Tundra with a 5.7. They just seem fun to drive!!

 

They are, especially when you turn off the nannies.

 

The doors on these trucks are HUGE, make sure that your door checks are in good shape.

 

Yes they are, I haven't had any issues with mine yet, but my truck only has 57k on it now.

 

It amazes me how many Toyota vehicles are still on the road with high mileage. My daily driver is an 03 4runner V6 Sport with 183k and still runs and drives like new. Good to see the 5.7 engine with that many miles.

I wonder if the transmission in your truck has ever had work done to it other than fluid changes?

 

My first gen double cab 4.7 has 192k on it. Runs like new!!

I'm pretty happy with my DC but as I've said before, if Toyota had made a 3rd gen RCSB Tundra, that's probably what I'd be driving right now. For me it just comes down the fact that I don't need the back seat and the RCSB would fit in my garage where as the DC doesn't. I didn't buy a 2nd gen RCSB because they are hard as hell to find around here, especially w/4x4 and low miles. That and while the 2nd gens are great trucks, I really love the 3rd gens.

Now if money was no object, I would love to hunt down a RCSB 4x4 and turn it into the ultimate trail rig! Wheel base isn't much more then a Wrangler Unlimited (Tundra RCSB = 126.8, JK Unlimited = 118.4) but the Tundra has that sweet 5.7L V8 (and a SC option), better interior, more storage space, Toyota quality.

I would do a full interior cage, SAS in the front, 4-link long travel in the rear with lower gears and mechanical lockers all around and just enough lift for probably around a 40-42" tire. I think it would make an awesome go anywhere trail rig. I would take it to compete on "Truck Night"! lol

Because of the damage in the rear, I bet they would probably take $9k cash? Considering I'd be turning it into a trail rig, I'd probably be replacing the bumper anyway and I wouldn't have to worry about putting the first dent into it! lol

 

Yup, 70 series land cruiser. Quite common globally, never sold here.
