I know no-one purchased their Tundra to save on gas money... but...

My digital readout out was showing 13 mpg but I've read those aren't accurate and it seemed a bit low (was expecting it to be 14 based on our 13/15 estimates) so I thought I'd do it manually to make myself feel better. WRONG.

I drive about 60/40 - highway to city miles. The last 2 tanks of gas I've put in have resulted in 11 mpg. 11, and I drive like an old man.

    Is this just me?

I haven't even had it long enough to go in for my first service, is this something I should bring up to my dealer? Or... am I being silly?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

I can get 280 miles to about quarter tank if I'm not mistaken that is about 15 to 17 gallons which is about 15 to 18 mpg

Apparently, the way to make yourself feel better is to reset before you start a freeway drive, so all you get is the average on the freeway. I see on here all the time, guys bragging about their improved mileage... but they reset it before the test period.

I've never reset mine. My truck is stock. It took me 'til about 3500 miles to get up to 12.8. Then it went up to 12.9 for maybe 150 miles then back down to 12.8.

Recently we took a 2k mile road trip, 5 people in the cab; heavy bed liner, luggage, and bed topper at the back. By the end of the trip, I was up to 13.6 (we cheered each .1 by the way).

Less than 100 mikes after returning home, down to 13.5....

I haven't reset mine and just turned 13,000 miles. My MPG was at 13.8 for a long time but a road trip to the TX coast it jumped to 14.2. I figured it would drop back down after being back in Dallas for a few weeks but it is still at 14.2

~13.5 here all stock. I was really hoping for the advertised 15-16 (mixed) since I do maybe 50/50-60/40 highway and city.

I'm in a poor neighbor hood of 13. I feel like I live in the burbs when I get the occasional 14.

If it makes you feel better. My 3.4 Tacoma only gets 17. The comfort and the power of the Tundra easily make up for the 3, less miles per gallon.

If you aren't hand calculating, you can't know your truck numbers. My dash readout has lied to me from the beginning.

bone stock, I get mid 16 to low 17s and I only have 2500 miles so the motor isn't really broken in yet

upsized tires and towing will drastically reduce mpg on the computer - if your speedo is off, your computed MPG will also be off before factoring in anything additional like weight

Im getting 17-18 each tank. If I drive like a teenager I get 15/16. And I hand calculated the first 5000 miles and its within .5mpg of what the computer says. So I dont do it anymore.

Now, if I 4x4 or turn off the nannies all that is out the window. But we alredy know that.

    Im all stock 2018.

I’ve got 37’s with 4.88 gears and I’m getting 13mpg now.. before the gears I was getting 10.5-11mpg so the gears helped a lot..

Are you running E85 or Gasoline?

E85 will result in worse mileage compared to Gasoline.

I'm averaging 14.5 MPG on my 5.7 FFV but never fill up with E85

I always find it fascinating when people on forums compare gas mileage. If ever there was something that was not comparable, it would be gas mileage for thousands of people who live in completely different locales with different terrain, each vehicle driven by a different driver using different fuel from random gas stations.

They'll get all upset when someone gets better gas mileage even by .5 miles per gallon. Are we comparing city driving or highway? Is it hilly where you live or flat? What's the altitude of your location? How many miles are on the truck? When was the last time the oil was changed? What kind of oil are you running? And on and on...

Yesterday I was getting 18MPG on the route I was taking. My average tanks have been around 16-17 depending on where I'm driving. One thing I've noticed is I can coax better mileage in Beast mode if I resist the urge to play and have fun. Wish Toyota would make that an option, to always run in Beast mode.

11mpg seems low, I average 14-14.5 city and about 20 hwy. The highway can vary depending on if I push it up near 80mph or not. I just pulled my pop up camper to Front Royal two weeks ago and got 14mpg pulling that on the highway at about 70mph. I also hand calculate to check against the readout in the truck as others said it can be wrong.

3” lift, black step bars, aftermarket wheels, LT305/55R20 was this way when I brought it.
Well I posted the same question when I first got my 2015 Tundra, around east Texas hills and stop and go traffic about 13.5. But took a trip all highway through Oklahoma mostly flat highways was showing 18.5 mpg. So it is not the truck. Mostly it is the small gas tank.
