Serious question. Had this brand new truck less than 8 months. While checking a fuse today my mechanic asked if I had been driving anywhere there was salt on the road and I answered yes, we did some off roading on the beach in south padre back in August. He pointed out what looked like some minor corrosion probably due to the salt water. He said I should wash it out asap. I said with a garden hose and he said yes. How do you other Tundra owners deal with salt corrosion and preventing this for future trips. Do you really wash out the engine compartment with a hose? Or is another method prefered? Suggestions/tips are appreciated.

    Thank you
    Jeff

I put several hundred beach miles on a year. I go to a car wash with under carriage wash as soon as I can after coming home. Never had an issue under the hood, including other vehicles over 40 or so years. Did you drive through deep water?

Even just a couple of inches of water will go a lot of places that you wouldn't think. If I've run through standing water I make sure to get to the wash as soon as I can, learned that lesson with my 70-something Blazer with the rusted doors and kick panels. And then there's sand, that crap goes everywhere. 2-3 times a year I blow out the engine compartment and as much of the underside that I can reach with a compressor. But that's the price we pay for doing what we love.DSC_1359.jpg
