Paint Match Grille

Hey All
Looking for advice- eBay has a painted grille for 3rs gen trucks for $269 with bulge. Has anyone bought them painted online and had good luck with paint match?
Open to other options if they are out there but not wanting to spend big dollar of course. Thanks !

I got mine from a dealer and the paint match totally sucked. I live with it because most of the matched grilles and hood bulges I see on the forum and in real life also look way off.

 

There are many different shades of the same paint color so the best way to match is to match to the other panels on your truck. Even then, the hood is metal and the grille and hood bulge are plastic so they could still look a little different. I bought my painted hood buldge and grille from a dealer and they are close in color but in the right light you can see a little difference.

I am not familiar with the grille that you found on eBay but think that you would have a better chance at getting a close paint match with an OEM grille.

 

They have a 90 day warranty contact the seller and see if it’s a no questions asked return policy. I bought my color matched door handles and mirror caps from sparks and they match spot on In bright light but these are much smaller pieces too.

 

I don't trust ebay items. There are a lot of cheesy sellers especially when it comes to auto parts.

 

I got mines off Amazon...same price but no issues. I painted the middle grill to color match everything.

i mine is just as bad. maybe its because its metal next to plastic? just about every color matched grille and bulge i see are way off (including mine). door handles and mirrors are just fine which is odd. it still beats chrome though.

 

Mines is fine. Maybe its just the picture that makes it look off. The only thing that i know is slightly off are my bumper caps because they are wrapped.

 

There are multiple factors in match, metal vs plastic, not painted at the same time, angles are a huge factor in the two materials but the picture above to me like old like a solid match in my opinion.

I ordered that grill from Amazon, same mfg as eBay. The quality was really poor, the color match wasn't even close (sky silver). Its interesting they went to all that trouble to make the grill as a direct knock-off for Toyota then finished it with low quality paint and no-quality control. I returned it after opening the box and inspecting it. Went with TRD Pro grill and had my local body shop color match it.

Chris, Where did you get the grill and hood bulge for $280. It looks great. Does it allow for the sensor to be reconnected?

 

For what's it is worth, body shop guy told me it was hard to match the paint when you have a combo of metal and plastic parts. The plastic parts handle the color a bit different than the metal parts. I know I purchased my grille and bulge from Toyota and they look a diff color from the plastic pcs under the lights and the bumper caps on front bumper looks diff as well.

Got my color matched parts from Sparks Toyota and they match perfectly:

 

None of them are perfect, they are all off to some degree. I have yet to see a photo on this forum of a 'paint matched' grille that is 100% the exact same as the body. Some more off than others, mine is off, just something to live with. The proof is in the photos (like above).
