Offset Options?

Hi everyone - I'm new to this forum but have been trying to educate myself on some of your previous discussions. I've got a 2014 SR5 4x4 with a 3/1 leveling kit installed as of yesterday. It's got stock tires and wheels, but I want to replace with 35X12.50x18's with a 9" wide wheel. The offset I think I'm looking for to make the tires stick out about 1" past the fender would be a +18.

I've seen some very good posts from you guys discussing mods to the skid plate and a cab mount chop (not entirely sure what's required here) for this tire/wheel set up

What I'm wondering:

1) if I go with this exact set up, how involved are these 2 mods?
2) are there additional mods I'm not addressing?
3) Could I play with the offset to eliminate the need for any mods whatsoever?

That offset is probably gonna be your best option to stuff 35's in. Cab mount chop may be needed tho. Do you know how to weld or know anyone that does? If so its not a hard mod. As far as the skid plate it wasn't an issue on my 12 but I'm sure it's nothing a cutting wheel a lil heat can't fix. Both mods are pretty straight forward with basic skills. As far as the 35's go I'm putting them on my truck tomorrow morning so I can report back with how they fit. I have fox coilovers set at 2 1/2". Other options for you are to go just a little smaller on the tire if you don't want to get into any trimming. Just do your research on the overall height of each tire you are thinking about. I have 18 mm offset wheel with 295/70/18 and I am very very close to the body mount. If you are set to get 35x12.5, get wheels with 35 mm offset. Amount of cutting will be much less. (there are some with 35's who claimed that there was no cutting involved.)

BTW - did your tire/wheel setup require any mods at all? Do you have any rubbing?

I took off the rear mud flaps when I got Bushwacker fender flares (some time before the tires). I took off the front flaps just before installing the tires. Tires did rub on the front plastic liners. I pushed the liners in and rescrewed a few screws and I have no more rubbing.

 

That sounds like the set up I may go with - any chance I could get more pics of your truck? Also, I have a 2014 - are the potential rubbing issues identical between your 2010 and my 2014?

Here are a couple of pictures. The second picture shows you the position of the tires with respect to the pocket style fender flares.

 

I've got a +20 offset and 35s. I had to trim the skid plate, heat and massage the front wheel well plastic back and chop my cab mount. 35s will guarantee you will have to modify something down there. None of it is a big deal though. Even if you don't weld, most places charge about 100 dollars to do a cab mount chop. You will just have to choose your setup and then see where you rub.

 

Thanks Trucky - I'm trying to keep the mods to a minimum - considering 295/70/18 with +18 offset and should minimize mods for now. Any chance I could get some pics of your set up?
