King Coilover install

i have a 2017 Tundra TRD Offroad truck. I recently bought a set of king coilovers and I’m going to replace the stock uca’s with the total chaos heim joint uniball ones. I’m also going to install a set of Bilstein 5160’s on the rear. I’m after a little more stable truck and a 1.9 inch level in the front. Has anybody else done this to their truck? Do you like it? Is it worth it?

 

Are Kings and TC UCAs worth it? EF the H377 yeah, IMO. You should end up with a very nice (it's still a heavy truck) ride.

 

I think @TheBeast might have some input about that setup.

 

That’s what I’m looking for. It rides nice now but offroad it’s a little bouncy. I saw a video of a Tundra that had kings installed and I loved it. Plus, I got a great deAl on the kings. I can’t wait.

 

I installed Kings with adjusters front/rear about a year ago and I love it. Rides smooth on and off road. Yes totally worth it!!!

 

yes it's a great setup. Also the TC UCAs are great for alignment, never had an issue with them.
If you have a lean on the Tundra, I would suggest adjusting the coil overs before mounting them on the truck. It's easier that way.
I had a pretty big lean driver side (3/4 to an inch). I have 6 more turns driver side than passenger and now I'm even.

you could also go KING at the rear. the rear are not that expensive compare to front.

 

I know the proper way to adjust the driver side lean is to take out the coil over completely, what about jacking up the LCA to compress the spring then see if it’ll turn? Theoretically that should work right without taking out the shock? I need to fix my lean

 

Jacking at the LCA will cause the spring to compress, applying more pressure to the adjuster ring. On my Icons I jacked the truck up to full droop and was able to adjust the ring with the Icon adjuster tool. I did add some WD40 to the threads to help out

 

Hmmm,just a thought, I don’t have the fancy tools to compress the spring but I have the punch king included in their kit. I haven’t tried full drooping the suspension then turning see if it will let me but I think I’ve read @TheBeast tried that and it wouldn’t budge. I’m just trying to see another way to do it without taking out the coil over. I’ve seen some put ratchet straps on the spring to keep it compressed then turn, I might try that

 

I was able to borrow spring compressors from Candian tire for free and return them....free truck health benefits. I bent my tool trying to rotate them even when they were not on the truck.

 

Yea I hear that a lot, I might buy the Spanner Wrench tool, out here in fort Irwin California it’s as remote of a military base as ever. I don’t have the luxury of the “right” tools at times

 

i broke their punch on my first attempt.. now..since I did the first adjustment with 4 turns (and coilover out), I went to see a Toyota suspension guy and he was able to add 2 more turns without taking the coil out.
He loosen up the arm and was able to get 2 turns with his tool. Not sure where you are located but he is next to San Diego. Now my truck is perfectly leveled. I have 6 more turns on driver side to compensate for my lean. Still drive good

 

Yea I’m in bumfuck Cali, fort Irwin to be exact, closest city is Barstow(45min) but even that to me is not a city. I frequent SD on 4day weekends, I might visit a shop there to adjust mine and takeout the spacer in the coilovers when I get uniball UCA’s.

 

I am doing something similar to mine, except in the rear i am using icons, the non resi ones, they are about $150.
They are aluminum and a little cheaper than the 5160. I had read where the 5160's Finnish goes to pot pretty quick, and the clips that hold the res break frequently also.
I spoke with wheelers and asked if there was much difference b/w the 2 ride wise and they said no, so that is the route i am going.
I have finally gotten all my parts, kings, icons, uca's, sliders, rims, 35's. will probly put them on next week or the week after.
