    Hey guys so I took my truck out off-roading over the weekend and noticed I messed something up! Figured out it was the shocks that broke. Went out to glamis and I hit a dip to hard that’s when the shocks absorbed to much. If you see at the very bottom of the shock it’s leaking heavily. I currently have bilstein shocks. Any suggestions on which shocks I shall get? I Might as well get some shocks that lift the front as well.. Also does anybody know a place in San Diego that will install them for a reasonable price? Thanks guys!

    This. We all could recommend some $2800+ 3" coilovers that would require new UCAs for heavy offroad use, but if you budget is under $1000 then that changes things.

    Hey @ralphy5.7, sorry that happened to you!! Those stock shocks are not really designed for much abuse at all, especially paired up with a spacer lift..

    Now what is your overall goal with the Tundra? You are clearly wheeling it a good amount, so I would personally recommend going with a "higher end" style coilover system at this point (2.5 coilovers), there are tons of different options out there for every need/ want. The trick is to pin point the perfect suspension system for your application.

    It all depends on your budget, get the most expensive one you can afford. It took months to save up enough monies for my kings but so worth the wait, it’s been abused hard off-road with no leaks no problems.

    I’ve seen too many spacer lift failures. Advice to anybody doing it please extend your bump stops and at a minimum. I just bought some super bumps for my stock height 4 x 4 looking forward to the results. Maybe someday I’ll lift it. But if I do it’s going to be something nice .

    ToyTec has so many options. All about budget. My OME coilovers are great. A bit more $ than Bilsteins. The Eibach coilovers are a great deal from ToyTec too. Won't break the bank. Buy what you can afford for the wheeling you do. Everything else is overkill ...IMO...

    As much as I love my Tundra, I'll say it. It is not a good choice for modding for "wheeling".

    That shock was supposed to blow and bend. It prevents something else more expensive breaking.

    Frankly, once you start down the rabbit hole of doing lifts and tires and wheels, you are now making different parts the weak link. You will not be done spending money once you buy and install the lift.

    Bring the hate on. I can take it.

    True..but.you could spend some serious $$ for shocks that you may never truly need. The extra $ could go for skids, all kinds of other goodies. I don't have deep pockets so I spend $ for my needs. Sure..things can change...

    The reason the shock blew out was because he had a spacer lift. This won’t happen w a quality coilovers.

    Don't the pics above show what happens? Just because you add a lift doesn't make it a better wheeling rig.

    Nope. Still hate running my Tundra off road. I have a Tacoma that does the job so much better.

    True, pics show what large spacers lifts do off road.
    A Tacoma with the same lift probably would’ve buckled the same.
    I had great times in my 1st gen taco.
    I love taking my tundra out. I guess it just depends on the wheeling you do?

    A spacer lift doesn’t belong in glamis.. and that’s on any vehicle.

    But to the OP seriously if you don’t want to spend much money and want real suspension look into Bilstein 6112. Great package on a budget.
