My Inferno '16 TRD has chrome TUNDRA letter inserts which are most decidedly uncool. Has anyone had any luck heating this up and removing them? I've removed badges on previous vehicles but they were flush mount which made it easy to get fishing line behind after heating them up. I did some searching but only found posts about installing the letters. If I get them removed, I may go with matte black in their place.

    Thanks,

    Mark

Use a blow dryer or heat gun. Should be the same like any decal.

The actual letters are kind of soft plastic (unlike the badges). Heat them up a little with a hairdryer and the use a 90 degree pick and stick it into the individual letter and you can pull it out the recessed area. Be careful, don't put the pick in to deep or you might damage your paint.

Got them off fairly easily with a heat gun. Put a decent scratch under one of them inadvertently. Not a big deal as I've ordered the matte black letters to put back on.

I definitely like the matte black better. Happy with it.

I just removed mine. Little heat gun and bought a trim removal set from harbour freight which made it much easier.

I should have bought a kit like that. I had the heat gun but used a large, sharp knife edge to pick up the lip. Ha.

Oh jeez don't worry about it, I know I'm in the chrome-badge minority, I was just being silly :)

Good thing for this thread becuz I’ve noticed that some tailgate inserts are different and thicker. Like the 3M ones which look great. So i want To removal the ones the matte black ones i have And replace with the thicker 3M ones. So heart gun & trim tools it is?

    Mine peeled right off!

Warm day but not hot. Used a spoon to grab a corner and lift and with slight effort and removed!

Mine also has the chrome from previous owner. I thought about just getting black letters and putting them over the chrome. However the letters on mine are the flat ones. Probably wouldn’t work to well laying them over the bubble letters.
