Friend of mine was backing out in his Tundra and sees the black truck coming down the road. The black truck moves to the left but my friend decides to wait for it to pass anyway before fully backing up. Black truck changes his mind, goes back to the right lane and hits him. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, here is the damage difference in both trucks. I swear that is all the damage on both trucks I am not hiding anything.

They always say that brush guards do more damage than they prevent.

 

Pretty obvious in that case. Still amazing that the Tundra only suffered a dented rear bumper.

 

Wow! How is that even possible? At what speed was the ford going?

I am told that the black truck was speeding. You can see in the Tundra picture that the ground is very close to the bumper because where he was backing up, he was going over a slope. Kind of hard for me to explain. Road was higher than where he was parked at so as he was trying to get on the road, his back tire was on a slope, back left peeking out the road, lifting the rear bumper so it hit the grill guard on a higher point than it would have in a straight rear end accident situation. Because of the tress, you can not see the any oncoming traffic unless you are very close to the road.

It is a spot that I also park at and this whole thing could have been avoided very easily if the black truck moved slightly to the left which is what it did at first but then changed mind and went all the way to the right.

 

Is that a deployed airbag i see on his passenger side?? Damn, must have been a heck of a hit to the point where the airbag deploys and maybe even his truck's chassis was compromised...

 

so, am I guessing correctly that your friend, the driver of the Tundra, was at fault and got the ticket?

Not necessarily true. My Ranch Hand prevented a lot more damage. Depends on what you hit and how fast you hit it. HD brush guards provide protection against hitting critters. Some critters like moose and trucks will frack anything up. I guarantee I'd rather have a HD brush guard between me and a moose than without. I've seen up close what happens to a truck after a moose hit. Not pretty.........Looks like like the Chevy had the right of way....

Yeah...I'm totally surprised how badly that Ranch Hand failed. May have used cheap bolts. The mounting points on the tundra are a lot more solid than on a Chevy.

 

That reminds me of when this old guy in a corolla was cutting across a parking lot and hit me. But, he hit me directly in the rear passenger tire. (You can see his red paint on my tire, not a mark on the truck)

I’d check the local laws. I heard on the radio that in driveways into the road have the right of way. I really thought that was strange of course, but the driver coming down the road should have avoided the accident. The Chevy was probably texting...

 

You may want change the radio station. A person backing onto a thoroughfare with traffic never has the right of way. Was the Chevy within the speed limit? Don't know. Was the Tundra backing out into the highway with a truck approaching? Yes.....Can't put blame on the Chevy. Could he have avoided from wrecking? Apparently not. Need more facts but doesn't look good for Tunny driver at all.

 

Better have a look at the frame though. I was rear ended in my previous 2016 double cab. Everyone at the scene thought I'd just need a new bumper. Turned out the damage was over $30k and totaled because of frame damage.

The car that hit me looked like it exploded.
