Debating if I should go with the 12volt.solutions self installed or automate 4214A installed by dealer.

    I have a 2017 SR5 Crewmax 5.7 with G key.

    12 Volt Solutions - $350 + $200 for Cell Module
    Pros

    Cheaper
    Easy Install
    Fob range without cell module
    Cons
    Self Install
Have to tap wires? Looks like one maybe
    Not covered by warranty

    Automate - $695 +200 for Cell Module
    Pros

    Installed by Dealer
    Covered by warranty
    2000ft range without cell module
    Cons
    More Expensive

Does anyone have experience or feedback on these units?

I have the 12voltsolutions on my truck. Very easy to install (had to cut the TPMS wire, other than that P&P). If you are worried about warranty buy the Toyota remote kit they make for up to 2017, it will cost more and the engine shuts off when you open the door.

Compustar. Best buy sells empty and I got mine with free installation for $200. Then you can get the mobile start add on if you'd wish.

I have a compustar that was installed by the dealer and i really like it. 2 way, decent screen, good distance so i can start from my office, shows if the truck is locked and armed.

I have a compustar drone mobile unit but it goes thru a different end system.

mycar.com, first yr free and then its like $60 for 3 yrs service. its a step above drone mobile basic service ($50 yr/$130 3 yrs) but below premium service ($199 yr)

edit : forgot to add, you get gps location service with your standard service, unlike drone mobile where you have to pay for the premium plan to get that same feature.

Does this version come with a wiring harness so you don't have to cut anything?

Was just researching this also. I’m going with the tech12volt Fort Evo 1 Module. Read good reviews and watched the YouTube videos. Easy install and priced appropriately.

    Good luck on your pick.

I have drone mobile on my compustar before but price was too high. Do I need to purchase anything to make My car control drone to work with my system?

No, I had to tap into wires myself. There's detailed step by step instructions. Its like 8 wires. The mycar module comes wired to a harness and is just plugged into the Fortin system. Wasn't very hard to do. But understandable if you are hesitant to do so.

My only worry about this is Verizon is shutting down its CDMA network next year. The 12volt.solutions works on Verizon as well, not sure if theirs is LTE. I would assume you would have to upgrade hardware at some point? Otherwise I am really happy that these systems run on Verizon, as I use them and have coverage in most places I travel.

Are there no issues with aftermarket remote start/alarms? I was reading a thread here the other day and a bunch of people saying the tundra’s electrical system can get fugged up pretty quick with these aftermarket kits

I bet you could buy another brands t-harness and tap those wires instead of cutting factory wires.

but the compustar remote start module is LTE based and has cdma.

they just use the cdma band to save money. its only a matter of a switch on there end to move to LTE.

You know i've heard that with every car/truck.... It will be fine. Thousands of people have aftermarket remote and alarms on the Tundras. AS long as its wired properly you shouldnt have a problem. Not to say that No one ever has ever had an issue. I personally have had mine since I have owned my truck and have never had any issues.

I have remote starts up here for the cold winters.

let me see if I can recount the number of vehicles

    1. 2018 tundra plat. cm
    2. 2016 Tacoma sport
    3. 2016 highlander xle
    4. 2015 camry xse
    5. 2014 4runner limited
    6. 2012 Tacoma tx
    7. 2009 dodge avenger (best buy 3rd party installer)
    8. 2010 Subaru legacy 3.6R

with a very good installer, you will have zero issues. the issue is finding one :)

the best buy installer was a hack job, ended up taking out the remote start and putting in a compustar. he took picks of the hack job and sent it to me.

Oh alright, thanks for the info. I just saw they used Verizon CDMA on the site. Makes complete sense to have both radios on-board.

Complete PnP, so no cutting or tapping? What harness do they provide?

Looks like BlueBottle posted the EvoOne as well. What harness did you get where you had to tap 8 wires?

I had the old harness which had to tap 8 wires. The new one is called TOY7 harness and that is complete pnp. Look up anderson electronics on eBay and ask for the pnp harness kit.
